“ there’s never been ‘birth right citizenship’ in the US.”
Not true. If you are born on US soil you are automatically eligible for US citizenship. It’s why so many pregnant women from third world countries, especially China, take US vacations late in their pregnancy. Then there are pregnant women crossing the border too to give birth on US soil.
I think line 3 of the post you replied too may answer your confusion?
it was made up along the way, likely not original intent of Founders/constitution and for good reasons.
And that’s stupid. Doesn’t work for Americans in other countries.

In Slaughter-House Cases (1872) and Elk v. Wilkins (1884), the Supreme Court affirmed the framers’ originally intended meaning of “jurisdiction”. In both
cases, a child born on U.S. soil, of a foreign-citizen father, is not subject to U.S. jurisdiction at birth. Such a child is subject to the jurisdiction of the
foreign government to which the child’s father owes allegiance. Consequently, such a child is not a 14th Amendment citizen at birth
this is the lie told by the left.
try doing homework on the 13th amendment and you’ll quickly realize ‘the soil’ has nothing to do with bestowing citizenship in the US
