Majority of voters want SNAP increased, not cut: poll
The Hill ^ | 07/17/2023 | SAUL ELBEIN

The majority of Americans want even higher amounts of food aid for struggling families, according to a new poll from the Save the Children Action Network.

The survey, shared exclusively to The Hill, could be a warning sign for conservatives seeking to cut payments under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as part of the discussion on a new farm bill this year.

“It’s important to note: If anything, most people would opt to increase benefits. Only 4 percent wanted to decrease them,” said Lori Weigel, who runs the Republican polling firm New Bridge Strategy, one of the firms that carried out the polling.

Yep, If the SNAP recipients had a job they would vote the other way.

An honest poll would ask “how much are you personally willing to pay for it?

Of course Save the Children has nothing to gain in all this...poll seems legit...

I vote for more SNAP for families who have sold off their flat screen TVs,
cable/HBO subscriptions, jewelry, gold teef, and automobiles.

Honestly some do work both husband and wife and still qualify for them in Florida. If you have two children and each parent makes minimum wage, you’ll get food stamps. I bet it’s even more likely in other states:

The survey, shared exclusively to The Hill,

Yes, because they know that The Hill won't print any unnecessary info, like "who exactly were surveyed" and "what was the wording of the questions."

To hell with working anymore. I just got YET ANOTHER invoice from the IRS saying I didn’t pay taxes from both 2020 and 2022. I have checks and documents showing I paid. They say I didn’t. How the hell can one small business owning working chump fight their “our records show” invoices.

I am seriously considering retiring early, going on every welfare program, and just watch the world crash around me. I just can’t find the strength and motivation to do this anymore.

It wasn’t “polled SNAP recipients”. If it had been the respondents would be able to give a realistic estimate of the benefits per person per day. As it was, the estimated benefits were vastly too high.

That’s why there should be a weight requirement. If you are 20 lbs or more over weight you do not qualify for bennies. Likewise, if any child in your family is overweight you lose a % of your bennies, as well. .

Put me in the “cut” category. I’ve seen too much of this program up and personal.

Since I can’t find a link to the polls methodology, I’m thinking you’re right.

Cooked poll.

major difference between increasing benefits for those that truly need it, and simply increasing the number of people who get it most of which don’t need it.

The food they can afford is JUNK...lots of processed carbs. If you had to eat the stuff, you would be fat too.

Food industry and gov’t is responsible...IMO

“Yeah a lot of Americans are starving. I see them at the store just wasting away , all skin and bones”

Assuming sarcasm was intended, I have to agree with you. One of my sons said that he saw a document sourced from a major college wherein the college was allocating funds to replace the stadium seats in a few sections with seats that are 6-8 inches wider. This is to accommodate what my son calls ‘plus sized’ fans.

It is a bit alarming to see so many folks that have to turn sideways to get thru a standard door.

No Problem.

Take the “SNAP” aid going to Ukraine and give it to struggling Americans.
