As higher education continues to cater to “woke” ideals, Texas taxpayers are funding an extensive “Office of LGBTQIA Education & Engagement” at Texas Tech University, with the LGBT-oriented Campus Pride Index giving the university a 5-star rating.
Campus Pride rates universities on their “LGBTQ-friendliness,” and the only other Texas universities to hold 5 stars are the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas at Arlington.
“The deterioration of our public universities is undeniable,” Brady Gray, president of Texas Family Project, told Texas Scorecard. “Less than a month ago, Texas Tech canceled a class on ‘Witchcraft, Bruxas & Black Magic’ following public backlash. Today, they celebrate a 5-star rating from Campus Pride, an organization that gave the ultra-left University of California, Berkley just 4.5 stars.”
According to the Texas Tech website, “The Office of LGBTQIA Education & Engagement serves the Texas Tech University community through facilitation and leadership of programming and advocacy efforts aimed at strengthening the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) community.”
It also offers resources for “members of the University community in their practice of ‘allyship.’”
“IGNITE!” the university’s “allyship” program on “inclusive practices for all identities” features a session called “Living Authentically: Promising Allyship for Transgender & Gender non-Conforming Identities.” The session discusses the “importance” of correct pronoun usage, “Systems of Power” and how they “make or break the overall state of inclusion for trans identities,” and “putting your allyship into practice.”
The session covers the “gender unicorn,” which describes the “differences” between gender identity, gender expression, sex assigned at birth, physical attraction, and emotional attraction.
The department also hosts “Queer Reels, Real Topics Film Series,” designed to merge “education with entertainment about the LGBTQIA community.”
One of their recent showings, “Bros,” is a homosexual rom-com that bombed at the box office.
Additional activities include “Pride Week,” a “Transgender Day of Remembrance” that “honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence,” and a “Lavender Graduation.”
Students who participate in the lavender graduation receive a lavender cord because, according to Tech, “lavender is important to LGBTQ history. It is a combination of the pink triangle that gay men were forced to wear in concentration camps and the black triangle designating lesbians as political prisoners in Nazi Germany.”
“How many alumni and others paying outrageous tuition to this university are aware of their promotion of these destructive ideologies?” asked Gray. “Texans should take a hard look at what universities like Texas Tech are trying to force upon their children and ask why our state continues to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into these indoctrination camps each year.”
Texas Tech is governed by a board of regents appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott and confirmed by the Texas Senate.

Fortunately my sons graduated from Texas Tech many years ago before this rot set in. All are doing well.

Not even the University of Texas at Austin or Texas Women’s University gets 5 Stars.
Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas. Lubbock is in a fairly conservative part of Texas. Years ago, when my sons were attending, TTU appeared to be reasonably conservative compared to most other public universities in Texas.
This plus Texas now having more illegal immigrants than any other state, we may as well dump all the illegals and leftists from the other 49 states into Texas, build a wall around it and hope Texas can contain the cancer.

I remember when liberal Indiana U fired the great (and conservative) BB coach Bobby Knight. He went to Texas Tech.
