Raising Transgender Awareness by: Deborah Lambert, September 26, 2008 Transgender students at Yale are concerned that the school is not focusing enough time and energy into providing “gender-neutral housing,” according to Anthony Paletta on mindingthecampus.com. School spokesmen explained that their efforts are being hampered by the residential housing layout on campus. But “Yale’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, pointing to what they say is a disturbingly low number of openly transgender students on campus, are pushing the University to do more to make Yale feel welcoming to transgender students. “Yale is currently one of only two Ivy League schools...

Denver, Aug 26, 2008 / 02:11 pm (CNA).- Several hundred Democratic National Convention delegates and observers gathered at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered Caucus in Denver on Monday to discuss their political concerns and how to advance them. Focusing on the promotion of anti-discrimination laws and same-sex marriage, the delegates expressed a favorable attitude towards Sen. Barack Obama, and praised his support for many of their positions.Caucus members and attending media received copies of an August 25 letter from Sen. Obama in which he praised the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered (LGBT) Caucus for “pushing our Party and our...

The Reverend Jesse Jackson said his offer to cut Senator Obama’s nuts off “should not be construed as, in any way, hostile to the Illinois senator’s drive to become the country’s first African-American president.” “Senator Obama is already in solid with the Black community,” Jackson pointed out. “He will get 90 percent or more of the Black vote. His big problem will be winning over former Hillary supporters. I’m just suggesting that he’d have a better chance with this demographic as a castrati.” Leslie Bianco, spokesman for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Political Action Committee (PAC) said people...

Gay Activists Ascendant by: Audra Taylor, July 10, 2008 Anticipating unprecedented victories in the United States, gay rights groups in America are raising their profile at home and abroad. “It’s a really exciting time to be an LGBT American,” Rob Anderson, who edits the web site for Campus Progress, said at the group’s fourth annual national conference last week. The progressive student organization held its annual meeting at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. The panel was entitled, “Is LGBT Activism Obsolete?: Assessing the goals and methods of the LGBT movement,” and offered a particularly notable presentation. The panel of four LGBT...

About a month ago, the California Supreme Court, in a 4-3 decision, issued a declaratory opinion that Proposition 22, which states that, “Only a marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in California,” enshrined into statutory law by 61.4% of California voters in 2000 (over four million voters), was “unconstitutional” on the basis that "gender discrimination" violates the equal protection clause of the state constitution. The LA Times reported that: "The California Supreme Court struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage Thursday in a broadly worded decision that would invalidate virtually any law that discriminates...

The State of New York has been ordered to recognize homosexual "marriages" performed in U.S. states and foreign countries where the practice is legal. New York's highest court – the Court of Appeals – refused to review a lower-court ruling that ordered recognition of so-called foreign "same-sex marriages" performed outside the State of New York. Such unions must now be honored in New York if they were created legally -- for example, in Massachusetts or Canada. Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality says activist judges are now forcing homosexual marriage on New York citizens. "[T]his is a very...

SUMMARY: He says: "Who in their right mind, if they were African-American or Hispanic or Asian-American, if they were gay or lesbian, would join the Republican Party?" Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean came under attack for speaking out against conservative gay men and lesbians as well as Republicans of color. "They can't become more diverse," Dean said Tuesday at a speech at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. "Who in their right mind, if they were African-American or Hispanic or Asian-American, if they were gay or lesbian, would join the Republican Party?" The Log Cabin Republicans issued a statement Wednesday against...

New restaurant's logo described by some as demeaning When the owners of Quickie Burger and Dogs chose their logo, they thought it would make patrons crave an order of chili cheese fries. But the logo, a busty woman in a tight shirt straddling a hamburger, has drawn criticism from campus groups. The newest addition to the South State Street landscape has caused a stir on campus with its brightly colored logo, which some believe is offensive. The restaurant, which opened two weeks ago, sits south of campus at the intersection of State and Hill streets. Adorning the blue awning above...

LGBT-owned businesses also will get a discount on UPS shipping services.

"Papa loved Mama, so they got married and had babies." Thus does my earnest four-year-old summarize the mysteries of marital love. For scientific purposes that statement is terribly incomplete. For philosophical purposes, it hits the bull's eye. With those words Phil Lawler began a Wall Street Journal op-ed in March of 1996. His child's perspective stands in instructive contrast to an article in today's New York Times titled, "Talking With Children About Sex and AIDS: At What Age to Start?" The answer suggested in the lede is "How about, oh, 4?" The reporter tells us this is the subject...

p>WASHINGTON, February 14, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a public statement last Friday, Matt Foreman, outgoing Executive Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, rattled the homosexual activist community by joining the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), pro-family organizations and a growing number of homosexual activists willing to admit that homosexual behavior is both extremely high-risk and primarily responsible for the spread of HIV/AIDS in the U.S. Addressing the topic of AIDS, Foreman drastically deviated from the "gay" lobby's party line by admitting, "Internally, when these numbers come out, the 'established' gay community seems to have a...

The Republican party’s having a gay identity crisis as of late - and the ideological winner could change the party’s political fate, not to mention the election. As Kerry Eleveld eloquently explains in the Advocate, three of the presidential contenders oppose a federal amendment against gay marriage: John McCain, Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson, although the latter wants to make sure no one state has to endorse another’s married gays. Regardless of Thompson’s middle ground, his and his peers’ moderate stances show that the Republican party’s facing an important decision. Will they stick to their guns and give the once...

I just got off a conference call with John Edwards' deputy campaign manager Jonathan Prince and two supporters in the LGBT community in which the campaign sought to portray Edwards as the Democratic field's best champion of gay rights ahead of tonight's debate on gay issues in Los Angeles. Predictably, most questions focused on gay marriage. Edwards, like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, does not support gay marriage but backs civil unions. For the most part, Prince ducked the question of why Edwards does not support marriage by emphasizing the candidate's advocacy for civil unions, which he called "an issue...

Poland & Latvia must address LGBT issues Amnesty International is getting tough with new European Union countries over gay rights issues. “If the European Union wants 2007 to be “European Year of Equal Opportunities”, it needs to ensure as of now that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people can freely express, assemble and associate in countries such as Poland and Latvia”, says Amnesty International. Amnesty International is concerned that despite public attention to a string of homophobic incidents – in some cases actions and statements by the very authorities of these countries – little has been done to redress...

Separating anatomy from what it means to be a man or a woman, New York City is moving forward with a plan to let people alter the sex on their birth certificate even if they have not had sex-change surgery. Under the rule being considered by the city’s Board of Health, which is likely to be adopted soon, people born in the city would be able to change the documented sex on their birth certificates by providing affidavits from a doctor and a mental health professional laying out why their patients should be considered members of the opposite sex, and...

A total of 66 members of the California Senate and Assembly voted in support of EQCA-sponsored legislation 90 percent of the time, or more. Those lawmakers represent more than half of the state's entire legislative body. In addition, 51 legislators stood up for every EQCA-sponsored measure that came up for a vote. The Legislature continues...

THE lesbian couple who pioneered gay marriage in America have split up, saying that their marital troubles show that they are no different from heterosexual partners. Julie and Hillary Goodridge led the legal battle that forced Massachusetts to become the first state in the US to allow same-sex marriage. The two, who met 21 years ago at a Harvard University course on disinvestment in South Africa, became the public face of a loving, financially stable, committed same-sex couple. As lead plaintiffs in the landmark case, they were featured in People magazine. Julie, 49, is president of an investment advisory firm,...

TRENTON, N.J. -- New Jersey lurched into a financial crisis Friday as the midnight deadline to adopt a budget neared and a dispute over the governor's plan to increase the sales tax remained unresolved. Gov. Jon S. "Over the last several days the administration has worked on contingency plans for the orderly shutdown of state government," Corzine spokesman Anthony Coley said. "At this time, it looks like we may...

Boys with a number of elder brothers are more likely to grow up to be gay than boys with relatively fewer older brothers, younger brothers or sisters of any age - but is not the result of upbringing, says a study published today. For each additional older brother, a boy's chance of being homosexual increases by a third, it says. Prof Anthony Bogaert, at Brock University, in St Catherine's, Canada, says his research provides strong evidence that sexual orientation may be the result of biological processes in the womb. "If you have a biological brother, and you never even lived...

Over the last thirty years, some "mainstream" denominations have made enormous strides in their attitudes, policies and practices concerning LGBT people. For example, the Episcopal Church (USA), Reform Judaism, United Churches of Christ, and Unitarian...

A bill requiring students to learn about the contributions homosexuals have made to society and that would remove sex-specific terms such as "mom" and "dad" from textbooks has passed another hurdle on the way to becoming the law of the land in California. Last Tuesday, the LGBT Center sponsored a panel discussion, "The Religious Right's Obsession with Gay Sex." We supposed that the pejorative title was meant to draw attention but hoped that the presentations would at least begin with a fair exposition of the views of religious conservatives on homosexual conduct and identity. We expected the sort of free and evenhanded intellectual exchange befitting an event sponsored by an official University administrative office intended for the whole University community. We were spectacularly disappointed. Our criticisms have nothing to do with the panel's topic. It is an important one and that's precisely why...

ATLANTA - Churches have an obligation to help end the "poisoned atmosphere" surrounding the acceptance of homosexuals, the Rev. Al Sharpton said at a weekend summit organized by a national black gay rights group. The group invited religious leaders to brainstorm ways to get their message of tolerance across to church leaders, who are some of the most influential figures in black communities. Several portrayed it as a civil rights issue. "Our dialogue is the possibility of being acknowledged, loved and accepted. It can happen," said Donna Payne, vice president of the National Black Justice Coalition, composed of black lesbian,...

With same-sex "marriage" issues very much in the public eye in recent years, "gay rights" campaigners have made a number of well-publicized strides in advancing their social agenda. Even the Catholic school system in many parts of the country has played host -- willingly in some places, unwittingly in others -- to homosexual activism. In every case, activists seek to manipulate both the Church and her parochial schools in an effort to effect the normalization of homosexual relations throughout society. Ostensibly, the Catholic Church, with her clear-cut teachings on the sinful nature of same-sex unions, ought to be one of...

ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles County health officials are focusing a new anti-smoking program at gays and lesbians, who they say are nearly twice as likely to smoke as the general population. The "Last Drag" campaign aims to reach gays and lesbians through print ads and efforts in bars and clubs - where health officials say many smokers picked up the habit to begin with. "When a lot of gay men and women come out, they come out in the bar culture, and the bar and club culture has really established a culture where it's OK to smoke,"...

Next week, school children across Virginia will once again be the target of homosexual force's efforts to promote the homosexual lifestyle as normal and attack those who support traditional family as evil. The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), a national organization bent on imposing its view of morality on school children, is promoting a new program in K-12 schools. Called "Ally Week," their agenda is full of indoctrinating and re-educating our children through misinformation and by changing the definitions of social norms and sexuality. Do you know what LGBT is? It stands for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender. It is also an acronym used to describe the community of people living alternative lifestyles. Homosexual Advocacy Groups Admit 10% Fallacy By Ed Vitagliano July 30, 2003 (AgapePress) - For decades homosexual pressure groups have claimed that, since 10% of the population is homosexual, public officials should give credence to their political demands. Now it seems that when they absolutely have to tell the truth, activists admit the 10% figure is a myth. The startling admission was made by a coalition of 31 homosexual advocacy groups, including the Human Rights Campaign, National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. In their brief filed in a recent U.S. Supreme Court...

By Jon Dougherty © 2002 WorldNetDaily.com The former co-editor of a respected law review journal says pro-homosexual bias is not only prevalent in academia, but those with more traditional views are purposefully silenced. Ty Clevenger, who served as a co-editor of the Stanford Law and Policy Review for a 1999 project, said the publication's editorial board rejected articles critical of key aspects of homosexual life because of the stories' "non-conformist" point of view – meaning, they weren't "pro-gay" – and instead published only articles that promoted the homosexual agenda. Clevenger, in an article for the Regent University Law Review, says that while...

A recent California law intended to address violence against homosexuals has led to a serious controversy bearing on the first principles of American life and liberty. The claimed purpose of the "California Student Safety and Violence Prevention Act of 2000" is "fostering an appreciation of the diversity of California's population and discouraging the development of discriminatory attitudes and practices." The bottom line is that the law seeks to prevent violence against homosexuals by using the educational process to assault the moral conscience of California's school kids. As Dianna Lynne reported in her WorldNetDaily article of January 24, many Californians ...

Concentric is the state of having a common center. The U.S is no longer a concentric nation. It is being grotesquely divided, little by little, bit by bit. Free speech bordering on harassment and intimidation has replaced civility and open dialogue. A nation conceived in liberty now resembles a kid so confused about what liberty and identity is, and what unifying values are, that he has little in common with the family that instilled him with ethics and principles in the first place. How have we become "educated" to think like this? Public education now includes laws requiring that teachers...

While the decades-long debate over school choice rages and a potentially landmark case concerning it is about to be decided by the Supreme Court, I thought I'd share with you a few tidbits involving recent trends in public schools. The National Education Association, the 2.6 million member teachers' union and school choice's most militant opponent, holds itself out as being "America's largest organization committed to advancing the cause of public education." Put aside the fact that the union is lobbying to keep inner-city children locked in inferior schools. Instead, let's look at one of its current initiatives. On Feb. ...

Part of the goal was to shift the emphasis from what many perceived to be a homosexual problem, away from the homosexual activity itself and towards the attitude people have about homosexuality. If you listen regularly you know that words mean a lot to me. There's quite an opportunity to influence people's thinking by the way words are used. If you can frame the issues of an argument at the front end, you can win the argument by the way you frame it. Sometimes when I get into debates or discussions on the air, especially television where there's a short ...
