Public school, at least the way we do it, is doomed.
However.
I’m taking the unpopular position that if you are getting free school you do not have the right to engage in counter-mission behavior including disparaging leaders, organizing student disruptions, etc. Schools cannot exist if they can’t set and enforce standards of civility and proper behavior.
I even thought at the time it happened (and I was 18 years old) that the F the draft t-shirt case was wrongly decided.
Now, if you think school should be abolished, or that “students” not with the program should be expelled, we can have that conversation.
But disrespect and open hostility make free public education impossible, and banning it should be OK
Respect must be earned. It isn’t just deserved just because of the position one holds.
“free school”
Public schools are paid for by the property taxes of the property owners. Hence, they are not free.
Jahwohl, mein kommandant
Note, it isn’t free. Taxpayers pay for it. Which includes those who attend, since they no doubt pay sales taxes when making purchases,
