More cowbell: DeSantis loses ‘Jeb!’ wing of Republican Party
Washington Time ^ | 8/7/23 | Charles Hurt

Uh-oh. Now comes the “Let Ron be Ron” phase of the Incredible Sinking Ron DeSantis campaign.

Every failed campaign goes through this phase. It is as sure as admitting you are powerless over alcohol in the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step program.

“Hi. My name is Ron. Let me be Ron.”

To casual political observers, this always sounds like a hopeful step on the long path to victory. It always sounds especially hopeful to early supporters of the struggling candidate.

I mean, Ron DeSantis is what got Ron DeSantis this far, so why not more Ron DeSantis? You know, more cowbell.

But for those of us who have studied more closely the tides and waves of political campaigns over the years, we know the “Let Ron be Ron” phase is something else altogether. It is otherwise known as “the kiss of death.”

This is the phase a campaign reaches after trying every other conceivable option to right the ship. The campaign is running out of money. Voters are not interested in the campaign. Big donors are sweating. The candidate is getting crabby.

All your “campaign reboots” — the equivalent of unplugging the cable box for 15 seconds before plugging it back in — have not worked. You have cut spending. Laid off staff.

It appears the GOPe money boys are giving up on DeSantis. Neither Pence, Haley, nor Christie have gained approval. (Christie has become rather comical). I'll bet next they will recruit Youngkin. If that doesn't work, they may go for Georgia's Brian Kemp.

The problem isn’t the candidate themselves, it is the GOPe big money backers behind them. A large percentage of the Republican base hates the GOPe $ men as they recognize them for the parasites that they are. I will never vote for a candidate backed by the GOPe establishment because they are lying SOBs that hate the base voters and they screw them over whenever possible. This is why Trump won over all of the GOPe meat puppets in 2015. Jeb! “The $100 Million Man” Bush, Ted Cruz, and Mark Rubio all suffered the same fate.

Like everyone else, someone made some money over Desantis’ ill-advised and poorly run campaign.

He’s clearly an empty suit.

I doubt seriously that he can even get reelected in Florida....

BUT!

We still have the pro Desantis wing and anti-trumpets singing loudly on Free Republic....

“It appears the GOPe money boys are giving up on DeSantis. Neither Pence, Haley, nor Christie have gained approval.”

Because they were never meant to actually win anyhow... GOPe has no problem with furthering the same Communism but letting the Democrats take the blame for it.

The plan was for Trump and DeSantis to destroy each other, so then they can bring in who they wanted all along.

My Spidey Sense thinks, Youngkin is the guy. He’s keeping his shirts nice and clean for now.

It’s before the first debate, and over 5 months before the first vote. This “bury Desantis” rhetoric is beyond ridiculous.

Republican voters in Iowa and New Hampshire will decide if they want Ron Desantis, not pollsters and self-important columnists.

Let no one forget that the RINO half of the UniParty absolutely supported Hillary Clinton for President in 2016. They had their boy Yeb Bush lined up to take the dive like McStain and Romney had already done.

They were livid that Donald Trump ruined their plan and they attacked him before he was even in office.

These Globalists serve no one but themselves and would gladly do to Americans what they've shown themselves willing to do to anyone else on the planet.

Does anybody want or need the JEB wing of the party? They can’t or won’t lead, they won’t oppose, they just collect $ from their office and wait for the next election and promise whatever they think will get them a win. Not that they are going to even consider keeping their promise.

But this wing of the party has about poisoned the well with the rest of the party. They are treacherous, they threw the 20 and 22 elections to remove Trump. Why, why do I want to be in a party with such scum. The Trump cross over voters have absolutely no use for the JEB wing, in fact the JEB wing being mentioned drives those cross over voters away. This part of the Republican party must die, be removed or a new political party rise in its place without a hint of these scumbags.

Siding with the Bush gang is what destroyed his chances.

Youngkin is the guy

Who the flock is Youngkin?   Don't tell me, I don't need to know.   If it isn't President Trump we are doomed to a thousand year dark age anyway.

A decision has been made and it’s a bit bizarre.

The Never Trump folks are Never Trump for good reason — he would erase the GOP infrastructure and maybe talk RFK into doing the same on the Dem side. That infrastructure is what gets them interviews and occasionally an office.

So what they have decided is the polls are wrong. The people don’t really hate them. The primary voters do not oppose the GOPe. It’s all an illusion.

They decide this because they again, have no choice. If they were to accept what the people want, they would themselves be erased. So they will pretend something else is true. Much like the MSM is pretending Russia does not have infinite oil and gas.

You can create reality in the media. Only some History PhD candidate 30 years later might learn those news reports were all wrong, and by then no one will hear them and maybe their thesis advisor will let the candidate sit for his thesis defense.

That’s what the GOPe is doing. They are engaged in desperate pretense, because the alternative is a horror to them.

They are 5%. Not even 10%. The Media is pretending on this, too.

Maybe the very worse pretense of all is if someone has Trump physically killed, these guys think that’s the end of it and their infrastructure returns to the norm.

It won’t. MAGA voters will never support them again. In fact, they would rather support Democrats than them.

“Republican voters in Iowa and New Hampshire will decide if they want Ron Desantis...”

I mean, if he’s still running by then. I don’t see where he’ll get the money to stay in that long if he keeps going the way he has. Maybe he can ask Trump for a loan.

Ron DeSantis totally blew a VP opportunity in 2024 and a strong potus opportunity in 2028.

A strong declaration for Trump, even as a candidate, would not have hurt him.
