Goodhue, Minnesota, a small town in the southeastern part of the state, lost its entire police force after the chief and other members of the force handed in their resignations.
“I think we’re all a little bit blindsided by it, but we’re resilient and we’re going to move forward,” Goodhue Mayor Ellen Anderson Buck told Fox 9.
“I want to reiterate that we will have police coverage in the city of Goodhue,” Buck said. “That is not an issue.”
Police Chief Josh Smith, who will continue to serve in his position until Aug. 24, told city officials that he could not find anyone to sign up to join the police force.
“This has been three weeks now, we have zero applicants, and I have zero prospects,” Smith said on July 26. “I’ve called every PD around for the youngest guys out there, getting into the game. There’s nobody getting into the game.”
“If you want to keep the PD, and this is something we want to continue going with, something needs to change dramatically and drastically, and it’s got to happen now.”
One Goodhue City council member praised the police force for maintaining law and order in the town of Goodhue.
“I can probably speak for everyone when I say that they provided excellent safety and security to our community. And the small town policing that they did, we want that back.”
Police Chief Smith also told the Goodhue city council that the police force was losing on recruitment numbers because of low pay and competition from larger cities.
The largest city in Minnesota, Minneapolis, is the site of one of the most important policing stories of the last decade.

Well, well, well .... Who wouldn’t want to be an underpaid public servant that’s hated by half the population?
Nobody wants to be Derek Chauvin's future cellmate? No takers? Really?
They should work as private security. They’ll easily make 3X that amount, or more
its where America is heading anyway.
$22 an hour in a almost all white town... say what you will, there is worse places to work.
I live in a rural township that is larger than Goodhue. The township’s governing body disbanded the police force here about five years ago. They decided it simply isn’t needed. And nobody misses it.
I saw a new State Police officer the other day. Under 5 foot. Maybe 4’10”.
Why did the entire police force resign?
And why was this not mentioned in the article?
All part of the plan to bring about a National Police Force.
Yup, something is wrong there.
Agreed.
That’s been obama’s dream for years.
Great. American Stasi.
If the town denies you speed-traps...your police force for a town of 3,000 or less....probably won’t survive.
I saw this for my home-town. For about five years, the local force doubled up in size and they were probably clearing $5,000 a week on speed fines.
A stand started when people balked at using town businesses, from gas stations to restaurants. Within two months, pressure came to the city council to halt speed traps. Police force size? Dropped by 50-percent almost immediately.
I recall reading an article about some small town down south that was super aggressive against drivers. They would pull folks over for passing on the right on a divided road marked 35 mph, going 2 miles over the limit, etc. Then find 5 more infractions after they pulled you over.
I can’t find the article now, but it seemed like something out of the 60’s - but it was modern, and still going on. Oh - and the judge was only around for one or two days a month! The photo from the article showed people lining up outside the courthouse - hundreds.
They made a huge amount of money. Had a few SWAT vehicles, etc.
The speed-trap police that you post about was in Castleberry, Alabama.
They had a racket that went on for years, making huge money off of speeding tourists who were enroute to Pensacola and Orange Beach.
“I think we’re all a little bit blindsided by it, but we’re resilient and we’re going to move forward, blindsided? resilient? how ridiculous
Do you have a Sheriff and county deputies?
because of low pay and competition from larger cities.
At some point, the people of this country are going to have to realize and accept that throwing money at every problem isn’t a solution. I think we’re all pretty much aware of that.
That being said, police recruitment is down everywhere. Yes, pay and benefits have something to do with it. Some departments, like Suffolk County PD in NY, have patrolmen making over $200k a year.
But, the problem is deeper than that. Look at some of the reasons the military is giving for their trouble recruiting.
Fat, lazy, not smart, drug history, criminal history, etc etc..... and most all...after years of social media, being told to hate their country and thinking that they can all become an influencer on TikTok or Instagram, they don’t want to do that stuff anymore. They don’t want to be cops, firemen, emt’s, soldiers, marines, plumbers, truckers, etc etc etc.
The US Dept of Labor did a study, around 2015. Every year, 5% fewer people want to go into these fields. And, that number starts at those that MIGHT want to do it. It doesn’t account for those that can qualify or make it through any training they may have to go through. The numbers get even uglier after that.
At least 2 decades of Leftist indoctrination and social media has destroyed these kids.
So, at the end of the day, who is to blame? The Leftist in academia? Or the parents, whose complacency allowed the Leftist take over of the education system?
