Southern California is bracing for heavy rain as Hurricane Hilary continues to barrel up the Pacific coast, prompting many communities to prepare for severe flooding.

Hilary, currently a category 4 hurricane, is expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it reaches our area, but we're still expecting significant weather impacts through the weekend.

A tropical storm watch from Hurricane Hilary has been upgraded to a tropical storm warning, the first such event in Southern California.

So the story went from “first hurricane in CA history” to “lots of rain as a tropical storm”.

This will be the 5th tropical storm to hit CA since 1858 but the media will tell you it’s “climate chaos”.

They are damn lucky it will weaken to a tropical storm. I can’t imagine how they’d do with a cat 4 making landfall. Once again California gets relief from a hurricane. I definitely wished Florida did.

I thought hurricanes originated in the Atlantic and typhoons originated in the Pacific. Either way, anything associated with the beast is terrible.

The power of the storm is on the western side and needs water. On the west coast that power goes over land thus the storm dissipates rapidly the closer it gets. East coast can have that power side all the way up and the water feeds the system.

Lol! She couldn’t win a presidential election, and now her namesake can’t even muster up enough power to be called anything but a tropical storm. Kinda befitting lol.

I doubt there won’t be a CA land grab like Maui and Biden won’t leave his beach chair.

Hurricane 101: 2 o’clock is the most force in a Northern Hemisphere cyclone (coriolis forces makes the rotation counterclockwise, whereas in Southern Hemisphere the rotation is clockwise. The old “which way does water swirl down a drain is due to the same forces), that is positionally located from 12 o’clock being the direction of the storm’s center/direction of movement. Makes it worse if the storm travels up the West Coast of the US and the landfall, supplied by the water cyclone is always hitting initial landfall at 2 to 4 o’clock position.

On the East coast—2 o’clock is generally over the ocean- but when the storm makes landfall those in the path of the 2 o’clock winds and rain get walloped then.

In either coast- once the storm is over land the pressure cycling to create the cyclone is no longer produced by ocean and it dissipates.

Same kind of storm, but east of the date line they are Hurricanes, west of the date line they are Typhoons.

Oh my god. Tell the young idiots there has never been a hurricane in California and there has never been any flooding in California or Nevada. Global warming is awful. Were all gonna die. Time to panic and bring out a statue of Greta Thunberg for protection.

These idiots will believe anything.
