On Wednesday, October 4 at 2:20 p.m. ET, every TV, radio and cellphone in the United States should blare out the distinctive, jarring electronic warning tone of an emergency alert, accompanied by a notice along these lines:
“This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 14:20 to 14:50 hours ET. This is only a test. No action is required by the public."

These alerts can be turned off. At least on my Samsung old phone.

Not a surprise, took quite a bit of effort seven years ago...
The ‘regular’ alerts are ridiculous — my cellphone screeches for Amber Alerts that are up to 500 miles away.
Cable TV occasionally has EBS alerts.
The city tests their alert sirens about every 3 months.
Car alarms go off frequently.
The more ‘alerts’, the less people pay attention.
Other than incoming nuclear, why would we need a national alert? “This is a nationwide alert: You have 15 minutes to kiss your a$$ goodbye, but get your COVID jab NOW!”

Yeah you can. My phone is about a month old and I can turn off wireless emergency alerts.
Maybe they can bring you back in a med bed. 😉
