I believe Nitrogen will create the same symptoms as "The Bends", experienced by SCUBA divers after ascending too fast.
The lack of oxygen will cause the executed to pass out.
“ I believe Nitrogen will create the same symptoms as “The Bends.”
You believe incorrectly.
L
Wrong, you just go to sleep and never wake up. Happens sometimes in confined spaces, workers just pass out and peacefully die.
That's not correct. Breathing pure nitrogen will cause hypoxia, loss of consciousness, and death ... all in very short order. Decompression sickness (AKA "the bends") is explained in great detail on wikihahahapedia, among other more legitimate sites.
That’s decompression sickness, where nitrogen comes out of solution in the blood and forms bubbles. Different situation.
That’s caused by the rapidly changing pressure differential not by a specific characteristic of Nitrogen. Any soluble gas that is inert and not metabolized (Oxygen is metabolized) would build up in the blood and bubble similarly.
No, the nitrogen will only displace the oxygen. All that will happen is he will gradually lose consciousness, and then his organs will fail due to lack of oxygen.
Divers get the bends because the nitrogen comes out of solution in the bloodstream due to the pressure drop.
No, but that method was used by "John Clark" in the Clancy novel Without Remorse to extract information from one of the bad guys.
Nope. I worked in a lab that had liquid nitrogen pumped in. The only way to detect a fatal leak is an oxygen sensor because 77% of the air we normally breathe is already nitrogen.
Bends are caused by an internal pressure differential.
Umm, no. They will experience nitrogen narcosis which is a feeling of euphoria before you expire from oxygen deprivation. The bends occurs when nitrogen saturates your joints and blood from extreme pressure and the pressure is removed too quickly and cannot be resorbed slowly. It comes out of suspension as bubbles and create extreme pain and emboli. There is no extreme pressure associated with the gas chamber.
Nope. One simply goes to sleep. Deep, deep sleep. About six feet deep.
It won’t. You’d need an ambient pressure change for that. Don’t forget you’re breathing 79% N2 with every breath already; this would be better described as “oxygen depleted” vs breathing nitrogen.
The Bends happens because the Oxygen bubbles expand in the Nitrogen when the Scuba divers go to the surface.
It will not happen if the recipient doesn’t change altitude while strapped to the gurney.
Nope.
Swift and painless !
The bends are a pressure thing, not a nitrogen thing.
When the pressure is very high, gas is forced into the blood stream. When it is reduced suddenly, it bubbles out into the veins and flesh instead of coming out gradually through respiration.
“I believe Nitrogen will create the same symptoms as “The Bends”, experienced by SCUBA divers after ascending too fast.”
you believe wrong because you are ignorant ... google “the bends” and you’ll learn something ...
The Bends results breathing highly compressed nitrogen that dissolves into the blood and tissues when a diver stays under very deep water for an excessive period of time but then suddenly ascends without slowly outgassing the dissolved nitrogen, resulting in billions of nitrogen bubbles suddenly forming in the tissues ... think of the bubbles that happen when you shake up a soda pop and take the cap off ... THAT’S what happens in the bends ....
breathing pure nitrogen at normal atmospheric pressure does none of that, but simply deprives the body of oxygen, resulting in death due to hypoxia ... it’s actually a very quick and painless death ... really TOO quick and painless for those sentenced for horrendous and gruesome murder ...
