Barr says claims Trump trials will interfere with election ‘simply wrong’

Former Attorney General Bill Barr pushed back against the claims that former President Trump’s trials will interfere with the 2024 election, calling them “simply wrong.”

“The basic principle in the criminal justice system is if a prominent person commits a crime and they’re seeking office, that doesn’t give them immunity,” Barr said on Fox News’s “America Reports.” “If there’s enough time to have it resolved before the election, it should be resolved.”

Barr was also shown a clip of Republican presidential candidate and Trump critic Chris Christie saying earlier this week that Trump’s “conduct” and “insistence on continuing to run for president,” is what interferes with the primary process.

I guess its OK by Barr if multifarious criminal charges that are false on the law and facts are concocted in bad faith in order to smear and hobble a defendant who is running for President and thereby threatening to displace the administration and chief executive ultimately responsible for the bringing of such charges in the first place. Call me ignorant, but I do not recall ever reading approval for such tactics in federal case law or in the Federalist Papers or Madison's Notes on the Federal Convention.

Or maybe Barr fears Trump getting elected again, with Barr then hauled before Congress or a grand jury for his many failures to properly administer justice or protect election integrity as Attorney General. Golly, perhaps we can even find our own Jack Smith to charge Barr with obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and RICO violations for his many failures.
