The suicide rate among U.S. veterans may be much higher than estimated by state and national data, according to a study conducted by the national nonprofit America's Warrior Partnership (AWP).
According to the research, in the states examined—including Alabama, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, and Oregon—the daily rate of suicide among former service members was 1.37 times greater than previously reported by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). If the eight states collectively represented the national rate, the veteran suicide rate would be 2.4 times greater than previously reported by the VA, according to the study. That means that on average 44 former service member died by suicide every day between 2014 and 2018.
As well as analyzing veterans' cause of death and their health, AWP studied veterans' history of involvement with law enforcement—if any—and financial information like their credit score, or whether they were refused a loan for a home. These factors, the organization said, were correlated to how "hopeful" veterans felt about their lives.

The suicide rate of Veterans is horrendous and is the result of failed policies and failed health care for Vets.
There’s a long list of political failures but many of these suicides are the result of failure to provide help when needed and extremely long wait times in the VA.
Getting help for disabilities can take years. It’s a delay tactic hoping you’ll die before you win. Totally pathetic.
I don’t have evidence, but I will bet that many of the suicides are a direct result of the VA’s ineptness.
I am disabled and need to see a doctor about one of my many disabilities. I was referred on May 10, 2023. I have an appointment with a specialist September 29th, 2023. Nearly five months to see a doctor. Thankfully, this particular situation is manageable, but very uncomfortable.
I also have a claim for an additional service connected disability that has been “in docket status” since October, 2021.
I even went to Congressman Gretzky for help. His aid says that some people wait as long as 400 days. I’ve been waiting 697…
You guys need to sneak across the border, learn to speak messycan, then come back claiming refugee status. You’ll get free housing (five star hotel), a car, EBT card, and free medical.
So sad for these guys. They dedicated their heart and souls for an ideal that not only turned it’s back to them, it sold all if us out without a shot being fired. Im glad Im old and wont have to put up with this crap as long as the young folks will.

Had an acquaintance who served in Vietnam same years I was in Thailand. One day he decided to have an auction of all his goods. The VA was worried he was about to kill himself as one of the things they look for is when potential suicides begin to give away their goods.
He had no intention of killing himself. The auction went fine. He died of natural causes a few years later.
At my age I would like to get rid of lots of JUNK but now won’t because they might think I am about to “off” myself.
How would they know you are selling all your stuff?
Do they spy on all your personal finances?
There where 1.4 million Christians in Iraq pre-invasion, around 250,000 12 years later.
When you have a sale it is advertised all over the area. they can simply pick up a sale bill and see who is selling.
I also wonder how many drug overdoses are, in reality, suicides.

I guess I’m not surprised. We served in order to maintain high moral standards and where are we now?
- Those in power now have killed a lot more innocent babies than the few bad actors in Vietnam ever did.
- Those in power now pretend that sexual perversion is normal and something to be celebrated, not to mention supporting genital mutilation.
- Those in power realize they have near totalitarian power and gleefully have kangaroo courts for those who oppose them.
- The list goes on.
