DeSantis and Ramaswamy Call Proud Boys’ Sentences ‘Excessive’ and ‘Wrong’
New York Times ^ | September 7, 2023 | Maggie Astor

At least two Republican presidential candidates are criticizing as excessive recent prison sentences for members of the far-right Proud Boys involved in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, casting the defendants as victims of an unfair justice system rather than leading participants in an effort to disrupt the peaceful transition of power.

Several sentences have been handed down in the past two weeks: 22 years for Enrique Tarrio, 15 and 17 years for Zachary Rehl and Joseph Biggs, and 10 and 18 years for Dominic Pezzola and Ethan Nordean. The Proud Boys were behind major breaches of the Capitol on Jan. 6, and the men who received the sentences played leading roles in planning the attack, executing it or both.

“They just walked into the Capitol. If they were B.L.M., they would not have been prosecuted,” Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida said of some defendants in an interview with Newsmax on Wednesday, adding that he would consider pardoning them.

Of others, he said, “They may have been violent, but to say it’s an act of terrorism when it was basically a protest that devolved into a riot, to do excessive sentences — you can look at, OK, maybe they were guilty, but 22 years if other people that did other things got six months?”

Trump said he would pardon the Jan 6 people. By the way to you get any money from the DeSantis campaign?

"I can't say for every single one, because a couple of them, probably they got out of control."

He did not say he would pardon all of them. He said he would pardon a large portion of them. Let's be clear about that. There were several people who, for instance, smashed windows and doors and actively assaulted police officers that day. While I do not believe any of them were smart enough to actually plan and partake in a true insurrection, they should be held accountable for their actions that day. Trump agrees with that.

“DeSantis is not a crook.”

Only took his wife 6 MONTHS to figure out that she needed to redirect him to at least start looking like he understands MAGA.

Needless to say, a bit too late.

Paywall

Besides, New York Times

In real time, on Jan. 6th, Gov. DeSantis condemned the violence. (So did Pres. Trump. Indeed, Pres. Trump offered to make the National Guard available, to prevent anything bad from happening in the first place; but, Speaker Pelosi turned the offer down. Remember, law enforcement is there not just to protect the lives and property of the community, but to preserve the right to assemble by keeping the protest peaceful.)

Since then, as the Biden DOJ pursued J6ers with vengeance, DeSantis has promised to pardon those who merely trespassed and to commute the sentences of those given excessive sentences.

Does this include the Proud Boys? it might. DeSantis hasn’t spoken definitively. (And, as he is a lawyer, I don’t think he would. He’d want a commission of some kind to make a report. Remember, among other assignments he had as a Navy lawyer, was Guantanamo.)

Here are his words in the Newsmax interview.

“There’s some examples of people that should not have been prosecuted. They just walked into the Capitol. If they were [Black Lives Matter protesters], they would not have been prosecuted.”

“Then there’s other examples of people that probably did commit misconduct, they may have been violent, but to say it’s an act of terrorism when it was basically a protest that devolved into a riot, to do excessive sentences—you can look at—okay, maybe they were guilty but 22 years if other people that did other things got six months?”

Garbage, desanctomonious is on record supporting these political persecutions. Especially against Trump. desanctomonious also said the 2020 election was completely legitimate. That is why his polling is so low, hell he can’t even break 15% in his own home state where Trump made him governor. Now that’s a loser on scale so low crispy cream could beat desanctomonios in Florida.

Trump said he would pardon the Jan 6 people.

Yet when he actually could have, he didn't.

Hows your boy doing in his own home state. Oh, that’s right, he can’t break 15% in a single state. Much less his home state of Florida where Trump is beating by like 40%. But you keep on snipping at his ankles the way a rat chews cheese, it suits you.

To put it in perspective, Jefferson Davis, Alexander Stephens, Robert E Lee and many other prominent Confederates served no jail time for being behind the Civil War. Elderly women with cancer are doing hard time for trespassing.

I don't care if DeSantis is at 0.0001%.

At least I didn't have to abandon every conservative principle that I've ever held to support him.

DeSantis wants it both ways. His core value is to support whatever he thinks will advance his political interests at the moment. And as a surrogate of the uniparty, his political interests are attached to theirs. It’s patently obvious to anyone who’s looking at it with an open mind.

DeSantis has put out enough statements that can be spun both ways, which is his intention. And all of his statements on issues where he’s trying to straddle the fence never go so far as to commit to either side. He’ll criticize sentencing for being excessive, but won’t go so far as to say that those convicted are innocent, and the victims of a deep state false flag op. That’s just the way DeSantis rolls. He’s a company man for the uniparty, pretending to be a leader.

You have stumbled upon the true reason for the second Impeachment. If he had pardoned anybody in which the Swamp disapproved the Senate would have voted for conviction thus preventing any run for office ever again.

Trumpers have excuses for all of his failures in leadership, none of which are Trump's fault.

RE: DeSantis and Ramaswamy

It was the wee hours of the morning but didn’t they have a TV ad promising to sue for millions of dollars if you’ve been injured in and accident? Maybe it was two other names.

He is a billionaire with a great family. He could have retired and lived the good life during his golden years . Instead he decided that America needed his help .

You know what you call a Republic with fake elections? A dictatorship. America is currently a growing dictatorship striving to make it permanent . The political prisoners in Nanzi's gulag are merely a symptom of this expanding evil. We need somebody who will fight them. We have the right man for the job. If we can vote our way out of something we did not vote our way into remains to be seen.
