The Park County Republican Party has removed more than 20 precinct committeemen and women from their elected positions, saying they failed to attend enough party meetings.
However, there’s some question as to whether the party’s action is legal.
The Park County GOP amended its bylaws last year to say that members are deemed to have vacated their seats if they miss three straight meetings without giving notice to the party’s chairman or secretary or sending another Republican in their place.
At its Aug. 3 meeting, the party passed a motion to remove those who had violated the policy; a total of 22 individuals — representing nearly a fifth of the central committee — were notified of their removal in an Aug. 31 letter.
The party discussed the situation for more than an hour during a Thursday night meeting in Cody, but mostly did so in a closed-door executive session, leaving the details unclear.
While the party has only disclosed a list of the vacancies and not who was removed, those booted from their posts include former U.S. Sen. Al Simpson, former Speaker of the Wyoming House and party chairman Colin Simpson, Powell Mayor John Wetzel, Park County Commissioner Scott Steward and Northwest College Trustee Dusty Spomer.

Colin Simpson, son of Alan Simpson.
Ah, it's how politicking is done anymore. Transparency is silly.
Sounds like the bad apples were the ones thrown out. Am I reading that correctly?
The local Republican committee has the same rule.

As I understand it yes. Or getting rid of the people that just are “elected” but don’t do anything.
Does anybody really expect former US Senator Alan Simpson at 90 years old to be actively involved in whatever day to day stuff goes on. No. It’s some “ceremonial” elected position to be nice, when somebody could actively sit in the seat. And it’s a way to maintain control. Alan Simpson is a Liz Cheney endorser, and his son (a former Speaker) likely does as well. The others are likely Liz Cheney supporters as well but I don’t know. Either way, if you’re not going to the meetings, then don’t hold the positions.
Reality is most precinct chairs never really participate in anything. They show up at the annual organizing meeting or sometimes just send a letter. And, if they are the only one from a precinct, they are the chair.
Thank you both for your input.🙂
As a committeeman (delegate) I say, show up or be removed.
The rules apply to us all. Showing up is a large part of the job.
