‘It was really inconvenient’: New York processes all gun, ammunition background checks *Ammo Control*
WIVB ^ | 09 13 2023 | Tara Lynch

A new law went into effect on Wednesday, changing the way the state handles background checks for firearms and ammunition. It’s part of the Concealed Carry Improvement Act that Gov. Kathy Hochul passed last year.

New York is now a point of contact state, meaning the New York State Police NICS Unit will process National Instant Criminal Background Checks (NICS) when a customer tries to purchase a firearm. NYSP NICS will contact the FBI to determine if the buyer qualifies to purchase the gun.

For ammunition, the division of the state police will check a state record system to decide if a customer is permitted to purchase ammunition. This state background check is a new system.

Previously, there was no ammunition background check and gun shops submit requests directly to FBI NICS without passing through the state.

“They’re putting excess burden on systems that are already working,” Jeff Benty, CEO of Just Holster It Firearms and Training Center in Elma told News 4. “That communication [between the shop and FBI] is severed off and we have to pass through the state, so basically the state has used their government authority to inject themselves in the middle and now charge customers a toll fee.”

Customers have to pay $9 per firearm background check and $2.50 per ammunition background check. The state says the money collected will pay for the new background check system.

Benty says he did not receive information to train his staff on the new system until Tuesday afternoon and he is afraid the new law may drive customers away.

Ammo doesn’t have serial numbers. Other states do not require an ID for ammo. So I predict a lot of future smuggling.

When the system is “down” nothing will be sold. Does anyone know if reloading components are included in this?

The law is stupid because it was put in place by stupid politicians voted in by even more stupid democrat voters.

It is the voters’ fault.

Fireworks sales are illegal in New York. We used to go to Chinatown and Ozone Park and buy from the guys selling from their trucks or car trunks. Ammo might be another line of business for the gangs. Or people will just go across the state border. No place in New York State is very far from a border.

But You feel safer now than yesterday don’t You ?

Where should I send that pallet of Rectangular Canned Dog Food ? They even have a new design on the handle on top of that new rectangular can and folds down so You can stack more Dog Food in the Pantry it works really well. It’s only 50 Cal-or-ies per Can so Fido won’t be getting fat.

How is this any different than the illegal "poll tax"?

Yup! Back in the day a friend of mine had a "connection" in Chinatown who supplied us with M80s and other dangerous fun stuff in time for 4th of July. You could also get a gun easily if you knew who to deal with. Years ago Elliot Spitzer floated the hairbrained idea of putting serial numbers on ammo.

Has any woketard figure out how gun taxes have a DISPARATE IMPACT on persons of color? Or "sexual minorities" for that matter? Sounds like transphobia and...gasp.... SYSTEMIC RAAAACISM!

Next step: They
will tattoo our trigger fingers to match the serial number on the gun.
