ROME (AP) – Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni vowed Friday to take “extraordinary measures” to deal with an influx of migrants, including calling anew for a naval blockade of North Africa, after a week in which more than 6,000 people arrived within a day on the island of Lampedusa from Tunisia.
Meloni invited the head of the European Commission to visit Lampedusa with her to see the conditions firsthand and called for a new European Union migration deal with Tunisia to be put into effect.
In a video distributed by her office, Meloni said that Europe needs a “paradigm change” to cope with a series of factors in Africa – conflict, instability, soaring grain prices and climate crises – that she warned could spur millions of people to risk their lives to come to Europe.
“Obviously, Italy and Europe cannot welcome this massive influx of people, especially when these migrant flows are being managed by unscrupulous traffickers,” she said.

Pretty simple solution....Send the Army in there...round them up....zip ties....back on a boat and taken back to northern Africa. Repeat as necessary.

And yet, the elected officials always seem to get re-elected. Odd how that happens.
I agree, the NGOs are the main source of the problem, and they make millions off of the “crisis”. Declare war on them, sink their ships and boats and the problem will disappear.
She’s doing more on this condition than any other European country except Hungary.

She is so typical of the “conservative” politician that fools the gullible with her talk of being a “Christian woman” etc.
She is willing to “risk unpopularity” to send weapons to Ukraine, but she is not willing to risk Globohomo disapproval to use the military to protect her own country from invasion.
Any conservative with any sense would have realized that when she was first elected, and Hillary and Tony Blair immediately endorsed her as acceptable, that was the kiss of death that she was anything other than a fake conservative of containment and gatekeeping.

It’s the US State Dept, working with the UN that are organizing the invaders and bringing them in.
They are, then, turned over to the NGOs.

She is supporting Ukraine against the invasion, but she doesn’t support her own country against its invasion - even though she is nominally in charge !
