POLITICS Billionaire Ken Griffin, former DeSantis donor, sits out GOP presidential primary
CNBC ^ | 9/18/23 | Brian Schwartz

Posted on 09/18/2023 7:48:58 AM PDT by JonPreston

As for Ron DeSantis, Griffin doesn’t understand the strategy of the Florida governor’s presidential campaign and takes issue with the battle being waged with Disney.

Billionaire and Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, a major Republican donor, says he is sitting on the sidelines of the GOP presidential primary and not supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who he backed in 2022.

Griffin is not impressed with what he’s seeing from the alternatives to frontrunner Donald Trump and has yet to decide who he plans to help, he said in an interview with CNBC’s Sara Eisen set to air Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET.

“So we’re-- we’re now through the first debate. And I’ll tell you what, I’m still on the sidelines as to who to support in this election cycle. I’m still on the sidelines,” Griffin said. “Look, if I had my dream, we’d have a great Republican candidate in the primary who was younger, of a different generation, with a different tone for America. And we’d have a younger person on the Democratic side in the primary who would have his message for our country. And we’d have a debate around ideas and principles and policies to make this a great nation. We’re not having that dialogue right now.”

Not a big fan of the ability of any billionaire to influence a election. Everyone should be limited to 6k per cycle and that applies to any and all ways to contribute.

Maybe Lizzo McCain can get out there and do more talking for him. He needs a boost.

The DeSanctimonious Campaign is a Corpse!

The Corpse just hasn’t figured it out yet and laid down in it’s grave!

RDS had 2028 all wrapped up months ago it seemed. He announced his candidacy four years too soon after winning governorship of Florida thereby abandoning his own state and his polls sunk dramatically soon after. So simple even a billionaire ought to understand this. Voters will remember this for 2028 too, he’s done.

Griffin is the smartest idiot and highly-educated fool I have ever seen.

The guy donated $125 million to University of Chicago economics department, and $300 million to Harvard.

Yes, sure, its his money (mostly - he’s an insider who benefits greatly from our printed, fiat monetary system) - but if you want “impact” - why give so much money to elite institutions that already have $$ tens of billions?

This guy is like a bull in a china shop. Throwing money around to feel like a mover & a shaker and to get legislation that enriches Wall Street & destroys Main St. He personally made $4.1 billion last year— the most any hedge fund manager has ever earned in the history of the Rich List. Citadel’s flagship fund, Wellington, posted a better than 38 percent gain last year, making Griffin one of the top performers in his strategy. Firmwide assets under management swelled to $53.7 billion.

The overwhelming majority of Griffin’s political donation dollars have gone to Republicans, but he has funded Democrats as well, including former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Griffin contributed $325,000 to Emanuel’s 2015 mayoral campaign while giving $850,000 to Chicago Forward, a super PAC that supported Emanuel. Griffin also gave $500,000 to President Biden’s inaugural committee, more than the $100,000 he donated for Donald Trump’s swearing-in party.

Chicago hedge fund manager Ken Griffin, who served as one of President Barack Obama’s top fund-raisers four years ago, says he won’t be backing Obama again this election. Instead, he’ll be fueling an on-again, off-again love affair with the GOP and raising money to help elect Republican Mitt Romney.

“Mitt Romney understands that the private sector is the source of economic growth and job creation,” Griffin told Bloomberg on Tuesday. “His ideas can help get America’s economy moving again and start putting people back to work.”

Is this a conservative site, as described on the home page, or a Trump site? DeSantis has proven to be conservative through his policies, and Trump has proven he’s still a Democrat. If it’s a Trump site, just own that.

I don’t know. Why is a pro-choice, adulterous, government spending, pro-trans in women’s spaces at 60%? And why do people on a supposed conservative site support him religiously? I’m honestly trying to understand.

You think the government should be able to tell you what you can do with your money?

Interesting

I think there should be only one law regarding campaign financing: TOTAL DISCLOSURE.

With mandatory minimum 10 years jail for any violation.

Let me help you understand. Trump made the country run at a high order, unlike all the pseudoCONservatives who bat their gums and pound their chests when Fox News comes on. Meatball @ 9% should be an indication of how deeply unpopular his/your message is across the nation. So rejoice, celebrate and 🎵 sing, the Country Club Republicans reign of corruption is over 😎

Nope. But I do believe there needs to be max donation amounts for political donations.

why?
As long as there is total disclosure- it would make the system much more transparent than it is now, with all the game playing and hiding to thwart the rules.
