(NEXSTAR) — As lawmakers continue to try to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the month, many are growing concerned about how it could affect them, especially when it comes to federal monthly payments they receive.
The government could shut down by the end of next week, if Congress isn’t able to pass a spending bill. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy vowed Wednesday he would not give up trying to persuade his colleagues to pass a temporary funding bill.
So what would that mean for your Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, or Veterans Affairs payments?
In short, they will not be impacted.
Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are funded through permanent appropriations, unlike other programs that require renewal (those are impacted by the current budget discussions).

They MIGHT be able to delay the promised October raise in benefits (COLA).
I said MIGHT.
They will blame it on the Republicans.
The media has been trained well. Whenever there is a threat of a shutdown they start scaring seniors.
Won’t happen, though. Another cheap try by the Dems to scare people.
Some genius is gonna say “Hey, let’s fund everything by permanent appropriation”
Followed by "Hey! Let's suck in all those 401k accounts and convert them to Social Security!"
Usually I'd expect The Hill to write that the sky was falling because of the Republicans.
The lack passport offices being open would mean my dream vacation to Somalia and Nigeria would be shut down. As I’m sure is true of a lot of us here. 🌍😎🏖️
In perspective, this is second-rate fear porn.
Our addiction to such porn needs stronger stuff than this to scare us.
I mean, we’ve already been down the road of snuff-porn.

Of course they do. That's the real purpose behind "Social Security" and "Medicare": Make EVERYBODY a dependent of Government Almighty.
Addy’s got to meet the 1,500 word quota.
They do this every damned year!
Scare the old people!.............These bastards are despicable................
The democrats don’t care they love it when people suffer but they will scream about their Illegals not getting enough
SNAP raises starting OCT 1 are getting 12.6% raise.
Will be interesting to see how much SS raise is.
WE ALL EAT FOOD, ALSO
As they should. The basic job of the house is pass a budget every year. And nobody should be thrilled with the end result. That’s life.
Well, they are the biggest benefit sucking cohort out there, and they coincidentally vote at the highest rate. Probably related.
In January, social security will be 3.1 percent raise. Inflation went down too much on what they deem is worthy. Weird they don’t do groceries or drug prices. Ugh.
Addy wrote it for the propaganda effect of the headline. Addy knew a lot of people just skim headlines and never even read the first sentence.
Addy could have written the headline “Social Security, Medicare, VA benefits and Medicaid Will Not Be Affected By a Government Shutdown” and had the same message....but there’s no disinformation propaganda effect in that.

What’s almost a sure bet is that Dunghead, like his master Øbozo will try to make this “as painful as possible” by chaining national monuments—including the Vietnam War Memorial—and shutting down the Skyline Drive.
I like where they close the national parks as they swim in their gold.
