Did you not read the article? The ships are already in the Central Mediterranean, and have been, coordinating with Italy. They are pretty much half way between Gibraltar in the west and Gaza in the east (or, about 1,000 miles); roughly, about a day and a half away.

Ships are now in operational distance aka strike distance. NORMANDY a Guided Missile Cruiser amongst the 6 plus an unknown number underneath. Sufficient power is there. Plus we have Navy, Army, Air Force, and Marine bases in the MED Sea operations area and have had since WW2.
How many “flat tops” do you think we have available for deployment to the Mediterranean? battleships? None. The reality is Biden has no intention of doing anything, This “show of force” is just that — a show.
