To be honest, for several decades...Turks have quietly been exiting Turkey...most to Europe, and a new trend has started to the US. The 84-million population in Turkey that they lay out on paper...probably isn’t correct. Just in Germany alone, it’s near 7-million (of the German population of 84-million).

When I was there about 20 years ago, most Turks seemed pretty sane.

The ones I knew took their religion about as seriously as the typical Englishman takes their Anglican church- that is go on a couple of special days and otherwise just weddings and funerals. I liked the Turks; all about business and making deals (sure, I still call it Constantinople, but I’d nuke Mecca, too).

I can see why someone would want to get out of a place when the fundamentalists take control.
