ABC’s The View led Friday’s show with news about the manhunt for the mass shooting suspect in Maine, but quickly turned to statements that have been made by elected officials. And then co-host Joy Behar turned to the greatest inspiration of some of those elected officials, who publicly disagreed with them — former President Ronald Reagan.
After showing a clip of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stating that mass shootings are a problem of “the human heart” and “not guns,” the audience booed before Behar went back to “Saint Ronald Reagan,” the former Republican president who remains one of the greatest idols for many modern-day Republicans. In a vintage C-Span clip from 1989, Reagan states the following:
I do not believe in taking away the right of the citizen to own guns for sporting, for hunting and so forth, or for home defense. But I do believe that an AK-47 or a machine gun is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.
To which Behar replied: “They [Republicans] revere him. Why don’t they follow him?

I don’t revere Reagan, I revere the constitution.
AK-47s are capable of fully automatic fire. As such they are Class III weapons and require a tax stamp and very extensive federal background check that usually takes about a year. There are incredibly few AK-47s in the US.
OH! You meant a semiautomatic rifle that LOOKS LIKE an AK-47 but which IS NOT an AK-47. Yeah....well that’s completely different.

Reagan was right. The AK-47 is a pos. Shoddy engineering and inaccurate. An AR-10 or AR-15 is a much better choice.
Even if he did say it, no one is right all the time. Besides gun ownership isn’t tied to target shooting, or home defense, or hunting. It is tied to the defense of the country.
Reagan wasn’t god.
If I recall, the Reagan Assault Weapon Ban endorsement came post-Presidency, and post Alzheimer’s announcement.
In other words, it coulda been Nancy authorizing that statement.
More importantly, unlike the left, we don’t hold up humans as gods. Reagan isn’t a deity, just like Obama isn’t the Second Coming.

If Jews in those kibbutz’s had AR-15’s no one would have died on October 7th..but what the commie left wants is for all the criminals to have guns, the rich commies can have armed security while the rest of us are sitting ducks

Reagan was awesome but not perfect. He was dead wrong about this. We don’t have them for deer, nor always for home defense. First and foremost, They are weapons of war, intended to deter a tyrannical government. All other uses are secondary to that.
So love Reagan as I do, I am not his minion agreeing with every arcane thing he may have said.
