A bitter blast of frigid air is sending temperatures tumbling across the U.S. this week, putting dozens of records in jeopardy as nearly 250 million Americans from coast to coast feel below-average temperatures.
The cold-air invasion has already begun and will reach its peak later this week. In fact, parts of all the Lower 48 states will feel the chill, except for Florida, which will stay in the 70s and 80s.
On Tuesday morning, temperatures will plummet to the single digits in the northern Plains and the teens in the central and southern Plains.
And there won’t be much daytime heating as millions of trick-or-treaters get ready to head out on Halloween night, with afternoon highs only managing the 20s in parts of the northern Plains and the 30s in the central Plains.

Nothing new. Still remember trick-or-treating with wearing winter coats over our costumes.

I live in central NY State in the Mohawk Valley. We usually have cold and rain, or snow for Halloween. It’s 48 and raining. Nothing any different than any other year.

When I was a kid in the 50's, we always had to wear our winter coats under our costumes.

Exactly.
A mild Halloween is a rarity.

Honestly, temperatures aren’t changing much.
We’ve had a first freeze around Nov 1st every year in Charlotte, when it’s supposed to occur.

Southern Arizona’s going to continue with highs in the 80s for the next week or so. Might even hit 90 in places. 43 at our place this morning, though, which is the coldest so far this fall.

Global warming is the cause.
