Fueling electric vehicles costs roughly $17 per gallon: Study
The Washington Examiner via MSN ^ | 11/12/2023 | Bradley Knox

A new study found that fueling electric vehicles costs roughly $17 per gallon.

In its paper "Overcharged Expectations: Unmasking the True Costs of Electric Vehicles," the Texas Public Policy Foundation stipulated that the hidden costs of fueling EVs drastically outweigh its low upfront fueling costs. The hidden costs come from an increased burden on the energy grid exerted by charging stations, and an enormous amount of federal subsidies.

...

"Federal policy is also pushing EVs over hybrid vehicles, even though hybrids offer a far more efficient way to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions," it reads. "They use a much smaller battery, offer excellent driving range and performance, and don’t require any upgrades to our electric infrastructure. Toyota estimated that 90 hybrid batteries can be made from the same amount of raw materials as one EV battery and that those hybrids will reduce emissions 37 times more over their lifetime than one EV (McParland, 2023). However, hybrids receive far fewer subsidies and regulatory favors than EVs, as the prevailing political consensus is 'all EV or nothing.'"

It is about control, not results. This applies to most government policies.

Electricity is delivered in kilowatts, not gallons.
The article talks about low upfront costs for EV.
Then there is some allusion to a kind of cost accounting?
I believe the stated premise to be factual. But it is phrased so clumsily; it could be said better, I think.

Following this. Many (in government, and in the EV industry) dispute these numbers.

Where will the Dodge Ram EV fit into this since it comes with a 6-cylinder engine to recharge the batteries?

And I thought 4.25/gal for non ethanol is a rip off. Well it is, but relatively speaking...

They are saying it costs $17 for an EV to get the same mileage as an ICE vehicle gets per gallon.

In Florida there’s plans for yearly taxes on EV’s .

I drove my first hybrid a couple months ago — a Toyota Sienna we rented from Budget. 36MPG for a minivan.

“Fueling electric vehicles costs roughly $17 per gallon: Study...”

Probably cheaper than what Californians will soon be paying for gas.

Interesting.

I had guesstimated $12/gal equivalent.

People - idiots - like John Kerry, Bill Gates and Al Gore don’t care about $17 per ‘gallon’ equivalence ... In their world that’s chump change...

Please stop posting proven incorrect media.

Educate yourself. If you don’t know basic math and cost per kWh, then here’s a calculator.

https://www.inchcalculator.com/electric-vehicle-charging-cost-calculator/

type in 82 kwh for the battery. My cost in Texas is 9 cents a KWH.
It will show you that the cost to recharge at my house is $7.38

A Tesla Model 3 has an 82 kWh battery and a range of 333 miles
So that is is 2.2 Cents a mile in energy cost.
On the other had, consider if I drive my 2017 Ford Mustang GT 5.0.
I get 18 MPG (it’s a standard) - I just filled up yesterday for $45.32, and my car said 310 mile range. So that’s 14 cents a mile in energy costs.

It cost me roughy 7x if I drive the mustang per mile in energy costs.
Also my oil changes are ~110$ every 5,000 miles.

If you don’t educate yourself, you will fall victim to being led around by the nose.

Your cost per mile cost is misleading. I can’t speak to your intention, but the relevant measure is Fully Loaded Cost. Someone has trademarked a True Cost Per Mile measurement.
We know peeps that have a solar roof. Is the cost per mile for the -0-?
LOL
The cost for the first trip after the roof was installed was $46,000 (net after tax credits).
You can slice it, and dice it and put rice on it.
But cost per mile comparisons need to be scrutinized very carefully.
