It is crap
I walked to school by myself when I was 6 (in 1957)
I was outside all the time no matter the weather.
People forget how we lived before we turned into pussies
We were born about the same time. I walked to kindergarten when I was five, and so did all of my classmates.
I was a "safety patrol officer" in the late 60's and I can still vividly recall gusty northwest winds drenching me and my partner Sarah with torrents of formerly roof-laden snow.
I remember the same when I came up in the 50s

Ditto dittio ditto.
In first and second grade, even in winter with banks of snow on either side of us, my brother and I walked nearly a mile to school, and back, every day - also 1950s.
