Road Trip: United States Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak, Alaska

AKuscgkodiak6

Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak is an Air Station of the United States Coast Guard located in Kodiak, Alaska. It is the largest in the service's Pacific Area, with a crew of 85 officers and 517 enlisted personnel, and the largest Coast Guard Base in terms of physical size at 23,000 acres.

It is a tenant command of Base Support Unit Kodiak, and shares its airfield with Kodiak Airport. The station operates MH-60 Jayhawk and MH-65 Dolphin helicopters, and the HC-130 Hercules fixed-wing aircraft.

The station's primary mission is aerial search and rescue in a 4,000,000-square-mile area of responsibility covering the Gulf of Alaska, Bristol Bay, the Bering Sea, and Alaska's Pacific coast.

It is also responsible for patrolling offshore fisheries, deploying HH-65 helicopters aboard High Endurance Cutters operating off Alaska, and providing logistical support to various Coast Guard units in the area. The latter mission includes transporting aids to navigation personnel who maintain remote shore beacons that are only accessible by air.

AKuscgkodiak4

Air Station Kodiak's maintenance professionals "keep'em flying". Keeping aircraft mission capable in some of the most demanding weather conditions found anywhere in the world requires a special sense of dedication and commitment.

With aircraft availability rates that routinely surpass Commandant requirements, the men and women of Air Station Kodiak continue to meet this challenge. Aviation enlisted personnel can expect to be assigned to one of the three airframe types (HC-130, MH-60, MH-65) at Kodiak. Assignment to ALPAT (MH-65) is normally a second tour of duty for qualified aircrew members.

AKuscgkodiak3

Air Station Kodiak continues to be recognized nationally for the accomplishments of the crew. Recent awards include; the 2002 Naval Helicopter Award for Aircrew of the Year, the Seventeenth Coast Guard District Operational Excellence Award for a Large Unit, 2001 Association of Naval Aviators Award for Helicopter Aviation, the 2001 National Defense Transportation Association Unit Award, and a Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Award in 2000.

Individual recognition includes presentation of the prestigious Admiral Bender, Admiral Hayes, and Admiral Gracey awards. The officers and enlisted men and women of Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak have consistently demonstrated heroism and professionalism, remaining SEMPER PARATUS to serve their country, and more closely to home, the people of the great state of Alaska.

Hiya radu!

We're getting a lot of welcome rain this week and it's December so the temps are chilly so not much happening my way except bundling down inside.

I made my Sunday journey to visit Robin and the pups and on Saturday I watched my University of Washington Huskies make it into the college football playoffs.

Lots of college bowl games happening this month so that will keep me entertained.

How are things with you?

Howdy, PRO!

I envy you the rain you’re getting. Be grateful ....... then maybe push some of it down here. :-)

Did half the neighborhood hear you woot and holler when the Huskies won? LOL Yep, December is a fun month for college football fans with all the bowl games going on.

It was a low-key weekend here but Friday was fun. I was asked to head up to the museum to help out Da Boss for a few hours. It’s the first time he’s asked and I hope he’ll ask again over the winter.

December 5

God’s Comforting Commitment

Bible in a Year:

The Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9 Years ago, our family visited Four Corners, the only place in the United States where four states meet at one location. My husband stood in the section marked Arizona. Our oldest son, A.J., hopped into Utah. Our youngest son, Xavier, held my hand as we stepped into Colorado. When I scooted into New Mexico, Xavier said, “Mom, I can’t believe you left me in Colorado!” We were together and apart as our laughter was heard in four different states. Now that our grown sons have left home, I have a deeper appreciation of God’s promise to be near all His people wherever they go.

After Moses died, God called Joshua into leadership and guaranteed His presence as He expanded the Israelite’s territory (Joshua 1:1–4). God said, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you” (v. 5). Knowing that Joshua would struggle with doubt and fear as the new leader of His people, God built a foundation of hope on these words: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (v. 9).

No matter where God leads us or our loved ones, even through difficult times, His most comforting commitment assures us that He’s always present. .

Reflect & Pray

How has God recently comforted you with His constant presence? How does His commitment to be present help when you’re far from loved ones?

Ever-present God, thank You for comforting me with the promise of Your constant presence.
