NOW - Donald Tusk, former president of the European Council, confirmed as Poland's new prime minister.

Just like here, it was all about women wanting their abortions.
As I said above most leftists want to keep Muhammedans out
I’m not so sure about “all” — note that KO only had a 3% swing to them. And the Lewica who are for all abortion, they actually lost 4% of their votes.
I think the big loss was due to PiS getting a bit arrogant and a lot corrupt.
Agree. From my decades in Europe when Tusk was highly visible working within the growing EU, he did not show himself more than a mere albeit somewhat charismatic politician. And as the EU grows and brings more power to its center, the "members" which became "member states" are heading towards being mere "states" under the likes of von der Leyen. Poland would do well to remain Poland, in all that this means. After all, look at the SPD-Green mess in Germany....
What was the general reaction in Poland to that “Green Border” movie about the Muslims on the Belarussian Border. It basically portrayed the Polish Border guards as the bad guys.
The general reaction in Poland was “another Agnieszka Holland movie criticizing Poland? What’s new. Bah, let’s watch anything else”.
i.e. general apathy to a bad movie with a political agenda (it wasn’t even a good movie with a political agenda) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27722543/
In the area where I live, no one I know even went to see it, not even the leftists.
Good to hear.
Ireland was once a proud and decent nation. But years of EU bullying and trickery have turned it into just another tawdry little European cesspool. The EU is trying to do the same to Poland and Hungary....I guess we’ll have to wait to see if they succeed.
Will Tusk be able to resist when the EU turns the screw? I seriously doubt it.
Concurring bump...Tusk is a recycled globalist puppet.
Thank you for the compliment, saying I am somewhat correct, and may I return the compliment: Your descriptions of Polish politic is somewhat correct.
I will offer the following descriptions (including EU affiliations) of the parties:
Law and Justice, the largest single party, it has ruled Poland for the past eight years. Law and Justice is a member of the Conservatives and Reformers along with the Brothers of Italy (Georgi Meloni’s party) (what a super star!). Law and Justice is center-right to right, and moderately Eurosceptic.
Civic Platform, the second largest party, together with two other parties, is replacing Law and Justice. One of these two parties has ruled since 2005. These have been good years for Poland. Hence, left of center parties have shriveled. Civic Platform is a member of the European Peoples Party, along with the Christian Democrats of Germany. It’s center-to-center right and pro-EU.
The other parties are small but are represented in the Polish parliament because of proportional representation and/or local strength. Quickly:
The Left Party is a social democratic party and a member of the Socialists and Democrats, along with the Social Democrats of Germany.
The Third Way is an association of two distinct parties. The Polish Peoples Party, which is a conservative and agrarian party. It is affiliated with the European Peoples Party. The Poland 2050 Party, which is a (European) liberal party. It is associated with Renew, formerly Association of Liberals and Democrats, along with the Free Democrats of Germany.
The Confederation is an association three distinct parties, one of which is libertarian and the other two of which are nationalist. None of them have representation in the EU parliament, but I would suppose they’d affiliate with Identity and Democracy, along with Marine Le Pen’s party of France and the Alternative Party of Germany.
Tusk would be joining in - forget about resisting.
The thing is that Tusk just looks out for his own skin. He hasn’t got the votes to push the EU agenda (PSL won’t) so he won’t risk it.
Will he be able to??? You mean “will he be willing to?” surely. I’d wager everything I own on “no way,Jose”. But I do hope I’m wrong...I’d hate to see *all* of Europe go the way of Ireland.
thank you Cronos
There is no substitute to actually being there.
Even though I am far away, I agree with your thinking. Parties tend to get corrupt, and mixing things up every now and then can be a check.
I also like the Confederacy. I was hoping they would get enough votes to gain the balance of power in parliament.
I halfway guess the Confederacy fell short because a good number of voters wanted Tusk’s coalition to roll back recent legislation regarding abortion. In a curious way, you in Poland and we in the U.S. are grappling with how does a democracy protect life within the womb and also respect the privacy of the individual.
How do you know?
I doubt he even wants to resist. He is one of them.
He’s already pulling a Biden, arresting political opponents.
