House Republican leadership pulled two bills reforming the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act from the floor, as Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., faced backlash for allowing two bills to be introduced on the surveillance law.
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., a member of the House Rules Committee, confirmed to the Washington Examiner late Monday evening that neither of the bills reforming Section 702 would come to the floor for a vote this week.
Republicans have been split on how to extend Section 702 of FISA, so Johnson had intended to introduce both bills Tuesday and have the one with the most votes advance to the Senate. One bill, the Protect Liberty and End Warrantless Surveillance Act came from the House Judiciary Committee, while the other bill, the FISA Reform and Reauthorization Act of 2023, came from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Judiciary Committee member Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, reportedly accused Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner, R-Ohio, of "f***ing lying" about the judiciary bill.

GOP Leadership is an oxymoron.
This is a promising sign that members are listening to their constituents.
Of course you prefer tried and true, ageless experience
You prefer Nancy Pelosi who has been around for ever
702 should not be reformed but killed.
“702 should not be reformed but killed.”
I agree, even if it means we get hit by terrorism once in a while. Having government agencies spying and trying to control who gets power in this country is FAR WORSE than ANYTHING terrorists can do to damage this country.
Someone around here pointed out that this was a play that Boehner used to run. Submit two @$$#013 bills, then whichever one got the most votes would be sent to the Senate with glittery stuff all over it.
Yeah. And section 702 is being renewed until April in the NDAA.
Because they just can’t let it expire. Which would be SO easy to do, because all you have to do is NOTHING AT ALL.
But the oligarchs NEED section 702 to know what’s going on.
Don’t reauthorize it. The government doesn’t need warrants to spy on foreigners. And if it wants to spy on its citizens, it can go to a regular judge and ask for a warrant. No more secret courts and secret warrants. They have proven they cannot be trusted with such powers after using them to spy on the President and Congress for political purposes.
It also helps them get evidence to prosecute political enemies.
“GOP Leadership is an oxymoron.”

They basically don’t want to lead. Republicans in general are uncomfortable with the concept of leading because they don’t really have any core convictions or values that they are willing to fight for. If they had any, we would see a steady, concerted effort to advance the conservative agenda instead of constantly trying to reach across the isle to their “Democrat colleagues” who just exploit their weakness.
“They have proven they cannot be trusted with such powers after using them to spy on the President and Congress for political purposes.”

Precisely. Things should continue when they work, not when they break down.
There have been multiple tense hearings in the House and the Senate, where fbi leaders admitted to FISA abuse. Republican reps and senators were spewing fire and brimstone about the lawlessness around FISA usage. Wray sat there smugly, claiming that he has instituted policies to stop its abuse. However, he will not reveal what those policies are to Congress. The BS is so thick in the fbi leadership testimonies that even a fool can see through it.
After all that the GOP Congress is just going to hand them back the stick that they use to beat on GOP voters and Americans in general. This is the same thing they did when the provided more funding to the fbi.

IOW the most pork laden one moves on.
Bet the house on it.
“It also helps them get evidence to prosecute political enemies.”

And the best thing for them is that the government pays for this. Its cost free opposition research.
“After all that the GOP Congress is just going to hand them back the stick that they use to beat on GOP voters and Americans in general. “

It’s the GOP Way.
To go along with the "cost free" special prosecutor. If effect, taxpayers pay for the Dem lawfare.
“If effect, taxpayers pay for the Dem lawfare.”

Absolutely correct.
Liberal always find a way to have someone else pay. Its never on their dime.
By now you would think more people would be catching onto their scam.
I'm afraid the only way people will find Dem lawfare bad is if somehow it can be tied to climate change.
