Border policies under consideration could overwhelm system, DHS officials warn
NBC News / Comcast ^ | December 13, 2023 | By Julia Ainsley and Julie Tsirkin

Department of Homeland Security officials are warning about the impact of policies being discussed in negotiations between the White House and Congress that would increase deportations, deny many migrants the right to seek asylum and make detention mandatory, according to current and former officials who spoke to NBC News.

“It would break the border,” one current Homeland Security official predicted.

“It would be completely counterproductive,” another warned.

The second official noted that Customs and Border Protection detention centers, as well as those of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, would quickly become so full that the agencies would be unable to keep apprehending migrants as they crossed the southern border.

“Border Patrol would essentially have to take a knee and watch them walk by,” the second official said.

Currently, Customs and Border Protection holds migrants for less than 72 hours, screens them for national security risks and releases most of those who are not considered high risk without sending them to ICE detention.

If a new bill mandates that all undocumented migrants be held in ICE detention, even those not considered a security risk, CBP and Border Patrol could have no place to temporarily detain or process new arrivals, the officials fear.

Then change the rules by making ALL Federal Employee’s financially responsible for any person that entered the country without proper legal authorization or remains in the country without proper legal authorization. SEIZE THEIR INCOMES AND ASSETS.

Officials fear the border being overrun, support services being overwhelmed...

It’s not that hard: We close the border unannounced on a Tuesday at daybreak. You simultaneously have troops deployed in the hot spot areas ready with rubber bullets, tear gas, whatever to push crossers back. Also simultaneously Mexican government is notified of what is happening, and kindly suggest they discourage illegal immigration immediately for two reasons: 1) Potential for injury or death to illegal aliens, 2) Risk of a military response from the US. Signs are posted at our borders and Mexican media used to communicate the same unambiguous message shared with Mexican government.. Next, physical barriers where it makes sense, other enforcement tools and methods elsewhere deployed. Lastly, a POTUS stands before Congress and the American people to explain the actions, the danger now present because we failed to act sooner, and an unapologetic commitment to continue this effort.

Not if they can't get in to surrender to CBP. This is just one of a 100s of reasons why the wall is critical to operational control of the border.

This entire article is based on the premise of what "could" and probably will happen if we don't complete the wall.
