PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A new law aimed at helping to improve interactions between law enforcement and people with disabilities goes into effect on January 1.
SB 784 which is named the ‘Protect Our Loved Ones Act’ allows local police and sheriff departments to develop and maintain databases of people in their communities with developmental, psychological, or other disabilities.
The listed conditions also include autism, Alzheimers, dementia, and Down syndrome.
A parent or caretaker would have the choice to voluntarily submit someone with a disability to the registry, should their local law enforcement agency create one.
Michelle Detwiler with the Parc Center for Disabilities says she feels this new legislation has been a long time coming.

Except all those “disabilities” were removed from the medical diagnostic books. They want to be special, but not THAT special.

Pinellas County OMG where Terri Schiavo was put to death in March of 2005 the SWAT team from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department outside.
Heck Michael Schiavo worked as a nurse at the Pinellas County jail as I recall it.
And then another round of ‘there outta be a law’ when this do-gooder scheme works its magic.
How about for every new law they have to strike off 10 — of both laws and lawyers?

The local sheriff has such a registry. It is primarily for first responders to use during evacuations due to hurricanes, long power outages, etc. I registered my wife due to her mental and physical disabilities following strokes. She is also on a special list with the 911 service, due to her difficulties communicating.
Oh, yea...Gov Ron, I haven’t heard from that guy in ages and had forgotten he was our Gov.

... and the LEOs will take time to run the agitated/disoriented person’s name through the database before tazing/choking/shooting them.
Yup. Aktion T4. So nasty they had to cancel it when the word finally got out.
Im sure this is well intended but as always, give anyone a little authority and they will eventually abuse it.
Would they put a George Floyd type on the list? Drug addicted and obviously not 100%? You see where this is headed.

Florida already has a law that allows for dangerous drivers to be reported to LE.
There’s no need for this one.
Especially since not everyone who has dementia, Downs, et al is similarly afflicted.
