I keep my cell phone off until I need to make a call. And now and again I’ll check it for messages. Then off it goes again.
I’m not important enough that someone might need to reach me immediately.

Amazon lockers work great.
I’ve used them sometimes.
Amazon has about a 95 percent success rate with me.
My local Barnes And Noble is closing today.

I’ve used Amazon lockers a few times, too. They work great. What a concept, too! Pure genius.
A cheaper alternative to the little used and ever pricey UPS store mailbox.
My UPS store was great but I got to the point I never used it.
Remember way back when and Amazon was nothing but another on-line book seller? Bezos launched Amazon as a bookselling site in 1994 when bookstore chains such as Barnes & Noble, Waldenbooks and Crown Books were everywhere.

Amazon says my first order was “Island of the Blue Dolphins” by Scott O’Dell on June 27, 2000. I’m surprised I waited until Amazon was six years old to place my first order.
Mine doesn’t. I turned everything off.
I use Brave and ghosteryi do not use apps I go to websites.
No website. Not my business.
I bought a ton of books from Amazon in the early days.
They had everything—including obscure books from Britain and Australia.
Local bookstores could not come close to competing on price or availability.
The only thing that opens here is take out and resturaunts and the inevitable breweries.

I was in optical communications at the time and most of my earliest purchases in 2000 were technical books. Stanford University had an excellent bookstore (with a huge engineering section) in downtown Palo Alto at the time, but even they could not match the selection at Amazon.
I use alibris.com for books. A worldwide consortium of used book stores.

The one I went to the only staff I ever saw was at check out.
They were stupid overpriced anyway and not much there I couldn’t find at Walmart cheaper.
