Roughly 22% of incumbent Texas House representatives are running for reelection unopposed in 2024.

The majority of those, 30, are Democrats; four are Republicans. None of 34 incumbents have primary challengers on the March 2024 ballot; none are running against candidates of opposing parties in the general election in November 2024.

The Center Square analyzed a list of candidates who filed to run for office published by the Texas Secretary of State’s Office to calculate the number.

Incumbent Democratic Texas House members who are running unopposed for reelection in 2024, according to the data, are:

District 35 Oscar LongoriaDistrict 36 Sergio Muñoz, Jr.District 38 Erin GamezDistrict 40 Terry CanalesDistrict 42 Richard Peña RaymondDistrict 46 Sheryl ColeDistrict 48 Donna HowardDistrict 49 Gina HinojosaDistrict 51 Lulu FloresDistrict 75 Mary GonzálezDistrict 78 Joe MoodyDistrict 79 Claudia OrdazDistrict 90 Ramon Romero, Jr.District 92 Salman BhojaniDistrict 95 Nicole CollierDistrict 101 Chris TurnerDistrict 102 Ana-Maria RamosDistrict 103 Rafael AnchíaDistrict 104 Jessica GonzálezDistrict 110 Toni RoseDistrict 111 Yvonne DavisDistrict 120 Barbara Gervin-HawkinsDistrict 123 Diego BernalDistrict 135 Jon RosenthalDistrict 137 Gene WuDistrict 140 Armando WalleDistrict 141 Senfronia ThompsonDistrict 143 Ana HernandezDistrict 144 Mary Ann PerezDistrict 145 Christina Morales

Given the current economy and state of the southern border, the GOP should at least TRY to win one or two of these seats. They could actually win one by accident. I noticed this same thing in the November 23 elections in Virginia. There were so many seats held by democrats that were run unopposed. The GOP should give the voters a choice. They might be surprised.

Don’t live in those states but I hope individuals in those communities can and will step up.

So there are no qualified and inspiring Republicans in any of these districts?

These unopposed Demonicrats are likely from areas so extremely leftist that a person running as a Republican would probably need to increase his life insurance.

Paxton recruited someone to run against Phelan in the primary.
Paxton critic Andrew Murr, grandson of Governor Coke Stevenson, bowed out.

Texas Repubs are a disaster... no money, no election integrity plan (by design, fired the last consultant), no candidates in the worst time for Dems in decades. Maybe it’s all on purpose with Chinese/Soros money?... ymmv

The last press release I can find about the Texas Republican Recruitment Task Force is from 2021.

Most of the list are Mexicans.

Running in their districts is a) typically futile for any non-Mexican and b) life threatening.

This may come as a shock to most people East of the Mississippi but the drug mafias (”cartels”) usually own these people just like in Messiko.

Whitey be havin’ uh accident if he tries to get over.

“These unopposed Demonicrats are likely from areas so extremely leftist that a person running as a Republican would probably need to increase his life insurance.”

A good possibility. LOL.

However, if it is just because a Democrat has “always won in that district” maybe it is because the GOP has failed to give the voters a different choice. As I said, with the current economy and the state of the southern border, now would be the time to take advantage of the Democrat’s low ratings and try to take just one or two of those seats. Dynamics change over the years and people move in or out of districts. Voters change their opinions on issues as they get older. Preemptively conceding to the left is not the way to gain seats in the House.

It is as if the GOP and Dems get together before hand and divide up all the seats except two or three and then say “These are the seats we will contest and let the voters decide. The others we have already agreed upon”.

“These unopposed Demonicrats are likely from areas so extremely leftist that a person running as a Republican would probably need to increase his life insurance.”

Precisely. Of the 30 districts in which some slimy Rat is running unopposed, Republicans would have about the same chance as a snowball in hell in maybe 3 or 4 of them. In the rest, they’d have LESS than a snowball’s chance in hell.

So all of the pearl clutchers and people wetting their pants about this are wasting their time.

The Democrats have infinite resources; the Republicans do not. The GOP will hold the TX state House in 2024.

Someone should oppose these clowns. If not R will run then someone from a different party: Libertarian, Constitution, Patriot, or RFK, Jr. supporters. People need to have choices in elections, or else they are just sham elections.

“That’s what they are afraid of”

I truly think the GOP doesn’t want to be in the majority and have to govern as their voters wish. They just want the voters to send them money for their campaign promises. That is why they fought Trump every step of the way. He was messing up their gravy train. They were suddenly expected to pass the legislation they had promised for years (See McCain, John et al). They couldn’t have THAT!
