On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Source,” Denver Mayor Mike Johnston stated that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) doesn’t see people crossing the border as people “who are trying to do exactly what the Statue of Liberty says, which is, send us your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” He also stated that he hopes Texas stops sending migrants to Denver during the winter storm and “A strategy of having folks just sent to New York and Chicago and Denver I think is not setting them up for success or setting our cities up for success.”

The Statue of Liberty says no such thing. A plaque attached to the base of the statue, added years later contains the quote. Being Mayor of Denver is not much of an accomplishment - and this guy fits. His argument is that Texas is not handling the refugees to his preference. The point is that Texas is being asked to bear the brunt of the Federal government’s failure to enforce immigration policy and border security. What he complains of is a microscopic portion of the burden on Texas.
My grandpa did the whole Statue of Liberty thing. Except he actually followed the rules. He sailed into NY past the Statue, was checked for health at Ellis Island, provided the Immigration Officers with the name and address of a relative who guaranteed that he would not become a public charge. He was provided with money, food, transportation, or shelter by the government once he left Ellis Island.
Not quite the same thing, is it Mayor Johnston.
a) The invaders are not coming for freedom — they are coming for free stuff.
b) The statue of liberty does NOT speak for the American people.

The Statue of Liberty did not have that text on it at the beginning. It was created by Emma Lazarus and added to the Statue in 1903.

Why should Texas bear the brunt of illegal migration but not Colorado?
The proof is there.
200 years ago, the “huddles masses” lived 15 to a room in squalid conditions with no welfare, no free housing, no free food, no free money, no free medical care and didn’t have more rights than US citizens have.
200 years ago we weren’t importing millions of dangerous criminals.
That statue should have a placard stating “Come on and take a free ride -Sponsored by the UniParty of the Former United States” .
And they’d scrap the Statue of Liberty tor the bronze, given a chance.

The Biden Administration has offered these people "humanitarian parole" status while their ridiculous, farcical claims for asylum are decided, a process that now takes years.
While paroled, they are now here legally and are free to travel as they wish. And most of these people wish to go somewhere other than Texas.
