Alberta power grid at 'high risk' of rotating power outages
CTV News Edmonton ^ | 01 13 2024 | Staff

Albertans were asked for the second evening in a row on Saturday to limit their electricity usage to essential needs only.

According to an alert issued by the Alberta Emergency Management Agency to all cell phones shortly before 7 p.m., a high demand for power during the extreme cold placed the province at a "high risk" of rotating power outages.

"On top of high demand of our own energy generation, Alberta's grid receives electricity from neighboring provinces. Extreme weather in Saskatchewan and British Columbia is impacting electricity sharing, which is also a contributing factor to tonight's grid alert," Nathan Neudorf, the province's utilities minister, said in a statement.

"The Alberta Electric System Operator has activated its emergency grid management plan to work with local distribution utilities to avoid potential rolling brownouts."

Go to the link. Check out the list of electric-consuming products they don't want Albertains to use. (Don't charge your EV).

And those who freeze to death will be buried beneath the epitaph:

Wood burning is illegal in Montreal:

“The weather is getting colder, but as of Monday cozying up to a warm fire won’t be possible for some Montreal residents.

That’s when a new bylaw takes effect banning most fireplaces and wood stoves”

Yeah, no wood smoke. Besides ‘end of snow’ is way past “best by date”.

-35 C (-31 F) yesterday morning in Calgary

-51 C (-60 F) in Grande Prairie, 300 miles to the NW ... which may have been the coldest place in North America

even balmy Vancouver, normally kept mild by the ocean, froze at -13 C (8 F) yesterday

Good thing we got all this Global Warming, or it could actually be cold out there!!

Get a fireplace insert with a catalytic converter. You’ll never see smoke being emitted from it.

“Just no using wood burning stoves”.

Canada’s 2023 fires didn’t leave any wood?

Canada has the third largest oil reserves in the world. There should be no “energy shortage.”

Wow, where is that Grande Prairie station? At the top of a broadcasting tower? Lowest low I saw the past few days was -44F.

My wife is from Grande Prairie. Fortunately her family moved to Edmonton, so we don't have to go back to Grande Prairie to visit. Jordan Peterson went to college there.

Maybe they are using wind chill. Although when it gets that cold the wind usually isn't blowing unless you are near a lake or something.

In the days of Alberta burning coal, the province was an electricity exporter.

@sshole “conservatives” Jason Kenney and Danielle Smith closed the coal plants and created this circus.

Alberta can’t blame the Left for this, the “conservative” side of the Regime did this.
