Rick Wilson, one of the founders of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, called this year's Republican primary a 'Kabuki dance' and predicted that former President Donald Trump would be the 'inevitable' nominee on March 19.

Wilson sat down with reporters ahead of the Iowa caucuses Saturday night at Des Moines' famed 801 Chophouse and laid out why he thought Trump's rivals - former U.N. Amb. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis - had no chance.

Wilson added that there are a 'lot of Republicans who desperately wanted that not to be true.'

'I wish there was better news about it,' he said. 'He's going to wrap this thing up. No amount of spin on the behalf of Nikki or Ron or anyone is going to change the fact that 40 percent of the Republican base will set themselves on fire for that man.'
