Google engineer found in catatonic state and 'spattered with blood' after reportedly beating his wife to death inside their $2 million Santa Clara home

A man has been charged with murdering his Google Engineer wife after he was found 'staring blankly' into space with her dead body nearby.

Police arrested Liren Chen, 27, who also works for Google, on January 16 at a home on Valley Way, Santa Clara.

He has been charged with murder but his arraignment was postponed after he was hospitalized.

Chen was found 'spattered with blood' with an 'extremely swollen and purple arm' kneeling outside a bedroom where his wife was 'deceased on the floor'.

His wife, thought to be Xuanyi Yu, had 'severe blunt force injuries to her head', according to Santa Clara District Attorney.

Santa Clara police officers went to the house around 11am on January 16, after receiving a welfare call.

When they arrived, a friend of Chen told officers he was 'concerned' about the couple and said Chen was 'refusing to answer his phone or his door'.

He told officers he could see Chen inside the home where he was 'motionless on his knees, had his hands in the air and was staring blankly'.

The officers went into the house and arrested Chen.

The district attorney's office said they found his wife's body in the bedroom 'directly behind' where Chen had been standing.

'Officers located the victim deceased on the floor. She had severe blunt force injuries to her head,' they said.

'Chen’s right hand was extremely swollen and purple. He had blood on his clothing, legs, arms, and hands and scratches on his arm.'

Chen and Yu bought a home at 714 Valley Way in April last year for $2.05 million, according to property records.

District Attorney Jeff Rosen said 911 calls for domestic violence have risen.

There was a similar case recently in Duxbury MA, which is so exclusive that we common folk call it “DELUXbury”.

That one invoved a toddler.

According to the press, he was making around $800k per year.

She was also a software engineer, so they were obviously making well over a million a year.

Years ago there was a great Canadian TV show called The Red Green Show.

One of the best shows ever.

I think my favorite was Edgar “KB” Montrose...the “KB” standing for kaboom!. Remember the scene where they're talking about films and Dances With Wolves was mentioned? Edgar Montrose chimed in and said...”I saw that one! The native guy was OK. Should have won the Oscar”. Great stuff!

Maybe she should have done the dishes, like he asked.

Oh, wait... too soon.

You are not too far off the mark. This is basically an 1800 sq ft ranch with a bedroom over the garage. Purchased last year for $2.3 million. Estimated monthly cost over $14,000 - yikes. Google obviously pays well.

“Father-of-five ‘shoots dead wife and three intelligent, high-achieving adult daughters’

It should be against the law to shoot a dead wife.

It's a waste of ammunition.

Awesome! You certainly did great. :-)

Are there still 5,000 sq ft houses on rivers in Tennessee for $350K? (Just askin', LOL)

I definitely believe your former CA house is worth over $1 million. Just crazy, huh?

We do like what we know of Simi Valley, though. Every time we visit family in southern California, we visit the Reagan Library & Museum. Love the place... feels like home. Been there more times than I can count.

I agree with you, though re California: The ocean is beautiful, and of course the weather is near-perfect. But that's about it.

San Francisco used to be a great place to visit, up until about 2019. Now it's a hellhole. As is LA. Haven't been to San Diego in many years. I assume it's not what it used to be...

Our back yard bordered the Library property. It is gorgeous there.

Wow! That really is a gorgeous area. Darn, wish I knew you were there at the time. Maybe we could've gotten together in person for a coffee while we were visiting CA. When did you leave California?

My husband spent most of his life in California - SF Bay Area (East Bay). He left in the mid-80s and has no desire to return.

One thing we noticed on our last 2-3 visits at the Reagan Library: When you look out from the back terrace, the lovely view was just pristine hills and valleys. Now some private company has filled part of that area with a solar farm. The view is *really* marred by those ugly solar panels, now, unfortunately.

We left in 2010. Every time you went to the Library between 2002 and 2010, you drove by our house.

We were there when RR died and the shuttles taking mourners up to pay their respects passed by our bedroom. Made it hard to sleep, shifting gears going up the hill.

One year, a group of FReepers went to visit the Library. We all met for breakfast (at Marie Callendar’s, I think).

I’m pretty sure that solar crap wasn’t there when we left. How awful. The view WAS stunning.

Oh my goodness! We definitely know that hill up to the RR Library. Wish I knew what house you lived in!

I spent all day in front of the TV, watching every minute of RR's funeral - in both Washington DC and in Simi Valley. Incredible funeral. I still can't get the beautiful "The Mansions of the Lord" song out of my head. Heard it about a year ago when we were at the RR Library... there's a video of RR's funeral playing on a continuous loop in one of the rooms of the Library.

Yes, the solar crap is terrible. The view is still stunning, of course, but that solar farm really mars the beautiful view. I feel sorry for people who never visited the Library until recently, and never got to see the view without all that solar crap.
