Boeing's 737 Max 9 planes could be back in the air as soon as Friday despite serious safety concerns among airlines and passengers - with American Airlines' boss warning Thursday that the aircraft maker needs to 'get its act together'.
The FFA approved an inspection and maintenance process that will allow the Max 9 aircrafts to return to service - but said it will not approve any requests from Boeing to expand production of its killer jets.
All Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft were grounded following the harrowing Alaska Airlines blowout that forced an emergency landing when a door fell off at 16,000 feet on January 5.
'We grounded the Boeing 737-9 MAX within hours of the incident over Portland and made clear this aircraft would not go back into service until it was safe,' FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker said.
'The exhaustive, enhanced review our team completed after several weeks of information gathering gives me and the FAA confidence to proceed to the inspection and maintenance phase.'
The maintenance process will require an inspection of specific bolts, guide tracks and fittings, as well as detailed visual checks of left and right mid-cabin exit door plugs and dozens of associated components.
It also includes retorquing fasteners and correcting any damage or abnormal conditions.
A Boeing spokesperson said: 'We will continue to cooperate fully and transparently with the FAA and follow their direction as we take action to strengthen safety and quality at Boeing.

Look, your petty fears are unimportant when compared to the need for DEI. /s
The average Joe would have no clue he was flying on Boeing’s 737 Max 9 plane.
A one day safety stand-down cannot undue over a decade of decay.
The culture of the Renton plant is middle-school at-best. Petty in-fighting (e.g., hiding tools, breaking tools, “stealing” carts), tribal discrimination (e.g., lesbians v. straights, black vs. white, you name it), union leaderships colluding with management in witch hunts and bullying.

When I visited Seattle a number of years ago I did the factory tour of the Everett plant. Among other things we were given a tour of the area where the 747 and 787 were assembled. It was the most impressive thing I had ever seen. Sad to see what’s happening to this (once) great company.
Fly one one? I’m hoping one doesn’t crash on me!
From what I understand, an all-woman engineering team from Spirit Aeronautical designed the door the blew out of the 737. It was not a Boeing engineering team. Many systems and components are farmed out to sub-contractors.
Like the pedestrian bridge in south Florida?
The maintenance process will require an inspection of specific bolts, guide tracks and fittings
Show of hands ---- who'll bet their life on the maintenance processes and crews?
“Boeing’s 737 Max 9” will now be re-branded “Boeing’s 737 Pinto 9” or “Boeing’s 737 Corvair 9”?
I am not nearly as concerned about Boeing as I am all of the diversity hires at the airlines!
According to Snopes and Politifact, that charge is unfounded. Those are such reliable sources, we need to believe them. 😁
I’ve definitely cut back on commerical air. No question! It’s a matter of time before one of the affirmative action, DEI pilots kills a few hundred men, women and kids.
Where did you get that information? The door plug design on the 737-9 MAX is identical to the 737-900 NG. The 737-900 went into service in 2001. Spirit Aerosystems was founded in 2005 when Boeing sold that manufacturing site.
That is incorrect. Boeing designed the fuselage and the plug door. The same design used on the 737-900 NG. Spirit assembles the fuselage with Boeing parts. The Daily Mail article cites a Boeing factory worker who claims the plug door was removed at the Boeing final assembly facility, and the improperly reinstalled. So maybe it’s not Spirit’s fault at all.
My brother in law is a financial analyst there and I hear horror stories - a once great company taken over by political correctness.
I pretty much don’t believe or disbelieve anymore.
I can no longer tell reality from fiction.
Clown World won.
Well, that’s what you get when you start putting women in charge where they don’t belong.
Stupid. And dangerous.
