Ukrainian Drones Hit Rosneft Refinery in Russia - Source
US News via Reuters ^ | 01/25/2024

Posted on 01/25/2024 8:57:57 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Ukrainian drones attacked a Rosneft-owned oil refinery in southern Russia in the latest such strike on Russian energy infrastructure, a Ukrainian source said on Thursday.

Local officials in Russia said there was a fire overnight at the export-oriented unit in the town of Tuapse, but it was extinguished.

"The vacuum unit was on fire. According to preliminary information, there were neither casualties nor injured," Sergei Boiko, the head of Tuapse district, said on Telegram.

Rosneft, Russia's largest oil producer, has not commented.

The Ukrainian source said the SBU security service hit the refinery with drones and would continue attacking facilities providing fuel for Russia's nearly two-year invasion.

"The SBU strikes deep into the Russian Federation and continues attacks on facilities which are not only important for the Russian economy, but also provide fuel for the enemy troops," the source told Reuters.

Unofficial Telegram channels showed pictures of the blaze and also said drones had been responsible.

The strike would be at least the fourth on a major Russian energy infrastructure target over the past week, including an attack on a Baltic Sea fuel export terminal and processing complex at the port of Ust-Luga, which ships oil products.

Ukraine - which tranships natural gas for Kremlin-controlled Gazprom to Europe - appears to be stepping up attacks on major Russian oil production and export facilities.

The attack will heighten concerns over global energy supplies. Oil prices rose on Thursday after a fresh attack by Houthi forces on ships off Yemen's coast.

I’m sure glad the terrorists in the U.S. can’t get drones. Anyway, I’m sure the experts in DC have taken all necessary precautions to protect our nuclear plants, grid infrastructure and such.

Nussiance attacks. Ukraine is losing 300 soldiers on good day, up to a 1,000 during several days since early January. Ukraine cannot replace the battlefield losses. There was an area yesterday where Ukraine lost 32 APC, Tanks, Artillery in one location. Ukraine has pushed partially re-constituted Reserves into the breach along the lines in dozen areas - brigade sized units have been decimated in the past 10-days. Russia is taking an operational pause to fortify recently taken positions in over a dozen sectors. New Russian Units are augmenting the deployed Units and pressing the attack against Ukraine, who is on the verge of collaspe everywhere within 80km of the Russian boarder.

Putin is going to clear up to 120km distance from the Russian boarder before the Presidential election in March 24.

The news is always a ship, bombers, oil refinaries, or a certain large Russian civilian population center.... The attack over the holidays/early Januray on a couple of Russian cities with artillery and missiles, has led Russia to make a huge push to destroy up to 75,000k Ukrainian soldiers in this offensive that cannot be repalced with the influx of 300,000 men in newly formed units.

This is the point in the war where Ukraine is tired, worn out, and for the first time undermanned against Russia. Until this month, Ukraine always had a significantly higher number of soldiers on the front lines, that has changed and will continue to work against them.

Thanks to Joe Biden and Boris Johnson/Angie Merkel, Zelinski and company have no one to negotiate with - kinda like that other Nazi leadership circle in WWII who were given no surrender until the armies were defeated.

Fix the Southern Boarder, let Ukraine collaspe, and let everyday American’s get on with their lives. Stop the lies that Russia is somehow going to steamroll all of NATO - you wanted to put missiles on the Ukrainian Russian Boarder and got bitch slapped for pulling this BS. NATO flying jets from NATO airfields in support Ukraine, or proposed production facilities near Ukraine in NATO lands is the only reason Russia might attack any place in a NATO country.

From some of the videos, at least some of these fires looked they could cause a lot of damage. It was suggested that one reason there are so many power and water failures spread across Russia is that a lot of maintenance workers have been sent to Ukraine. It this is also true of gas and oil works, these attacks will not be mended quickly. It looks like Ukraine plans to become a major drone producer. They certainly seem to be using them effectively.

Russia has sent much of its air defense systems to the Ukraine front. That leaves open spaces unprotected elsewhere. Ukraine may be flying drones through Belarus, or have people in Russia itself launching the drones. Fuel is a valid military target, wherever it is. Destroy enough fuel, and it will cause problems with the populace of Russia, and creates pressure on Putin to end the war.

“let Ukraine collaspe, and let everyday American’s get on with their lives.”

You’re delusional if you think that is going to happen.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is proving to the world that the post-WWII detente between major powers is dead.

Nations can once again invade other nations for conquest and plunder.

Watch the rest of the world burn now.

It is going to become increasingly more difficult to convince yourself it doesn’t affect you.

I’m sure glad the terrorists in the U.S. pouring over our safe and secure border can’t get drones.
Anyway, I’m sure the experts in DC have taken all necessary precautions to protect our nuclear plants, our other abundant energy sources, our grid infrastructure, and such.

Gee, I’m so relieved, because I know Americans’ safety and security is the primary concern of the transparent, on-the-job Biden administration and the tolerant and compassionate Democrats making laws for us up on Capitol Hill. It’s such a good feeling.

We like the way you Putin groupies always under-estimate Ukraine's abilities

That's one of the classic mistakes in conducting a war ... and Putin has made it since the beginning, and it has bitten Russia in the ass at every step

Guess that's why Putin's "simple 1-week conquest of Ukraine" has already gone on now for 100 weeks ... with no end in sight! lol

I will bookmark mark this prediction, so to clarify is putin going to move the entire front 120 km deeper into Ukraine? That would be impressive since their current progress has been in hundreds of meters at best in certain areas.

Since the front is almost 1000 km , moving the front 120 km would be an average of 120 meters

If so I can agree with your prediction, solid for 2nd greatest military and still not recapturing what they held after first few months of invasion.

Well done putin, well done

Besides much of their infrastructure being decades old, and much of the “maintenance “ funds being liberated by corruption it is true that state entities have been required to provide meat to the front. Do you think these managers sent management or lowly technicians? Additionally the state(putin) has required individual cities to pay for reconstruction after “liberation “ of destroyed cities in the occupation zones with funds and technicians from their own entities therefore draining even more funds and skilled workers to maintain their own systems.
Add to that, much of the infrastructure of oil and gas was built and maintained with western tech and technicians and the overall picture is not good

I guess one can call this a nuisance

Jumper: "Nussiance attacks. Ukraine is losing 300 soldiers on good day, up to a 1,000 during several days since early January."

Ukrainians themselves admit to losing roughly one of their own for every three of Vlad the Invader's troops.
But during Russian "Meat Wave" assaults that ratio can rise to 10 Russian losses for every one Ukrainian casualty.

Ukrainian estimates of Russian losses since last fall have been nearly 1,000 per day, thus implying 300 per day Ukrainian losses is not unrealistic.
If we see Ukrainian losses of circa 1,000 per day, those imply Ukrainian offensive actions, of which there have been very few in recent months.

Jumper: "Ukraine cannot replace the battlefield losses."

So, claim Russian propagandists.
Ukrainians are currently debating calling up another 500,000 troops, though as of now it seems unlikely:

Unlike Russia, with relatively huge potential manpower reserves, Ukraine must calculate its requirements very carefully.
Men drafted in the military are taken from jobs that can provide military equipment or services and pay taxes to the government.
Nevertheless, the numbers of Ukrainian armed forces (including police) are said to total nearly one million, though likely only a small portion are currently on the front lines.

Jumper: "There was an area yesterday where Ukraine lost 32 APC, Tanks, Artillery in one location.
Ukraine has pushed partially re-constituted Reserves into the breach along the lines in dozen areas - brigade sized units have been decimated in the past 10-days. "

This sounds to me like pure Russian propaganda projecting their own losses onto Ukraine.
The reality is that Ukrainians did push back on Russian advances in a few places this week, though overall the Russians seem to be the more aggressive since last fall.

Since the beginning of 2022, Russians have gained roughly 200 square miles of Ukrainian territory more than they gave up, at an estimated cost in Russian casualties of over 100,000.

Jumper: "New Russian Units are augmenting the deployed Units and pressing the attack against Ukraine, who is on the verge of collaspe everywhere within 80km of the Russian boarder."

"Verge of collapse" well describes Russian convicts used in "Meat Wave" assaults against prepared Ukrainian defenses.

There's no way to tell which side is today more strongly positioned.

Jumper: "Putin is going to clear up to 120km distance from the Russian boarder before the Presidential election in March 24."

That's a big deliverable.
I guess we'll keep the receipt on that one and bring it back for a refund, if it proves defective.

Jumper: "The news is always a ship, bombers, oil refinaries, or a certain large Russian civilian population center....
The attack over the holidays/early Januray on a couple of Russian cities with artillery and missiles, has led Russia to make a huge push to destroy up to 75,000k Ukrainian soldiers in this offensive that cannot be repalced with the influx of 300,000 men in newly formed units."

First of all, it's impossible to say how much the cumulative effects of destructions to Russian ships, aircraft, tanks and infrastructure have hurt Russia's military capabilities.
We do know they have forced Russians to remove assets from Ukraine back to ports, airports and depots further inside Russia.
These could make it more difficult to support Russia's front-line troops, especially in an emergency.

Second of all, for Russians to inflict another 75,000 casualties on Ukrainians, they'd have to sacrifice another half million of their own, or roughly 10,000 Russian casualties per day between today and Russia's March 24 elections.
That's a bold plan and I don't see it happening.

Jumper: "This is the point in the war where Ukraine is tired, worn out, and for the first time undermanned against Russia.
Until this month, Ukraine always had a significantly higher number of soldiers on the front lines, that has changed and will continue to work against them."

All that is false, the opposite is true.
Russian forces in Ukraine have been estimated as circa 400,000 with Ukraine's forces totaling maybe 1 million, but only a small part of those on the front lines in the Donbas at any given time.
Ukrainians have only ever outnumbered Russians on the front lines in relatively small offensive actions during the 2022 "summer offensive".
Since the fall of 2022 Russian forces have conducted daily "meat wave" assaults on undermanned but well-prepared Ukraine defenses which have given up small amounts of territory in exchange for circa 10 Russian to one Ukrainian casualty.

Jumper: "Thanks to Joe Biden and Boris Johnson/Angie Merkel, Zelinski and company have no one to negotiate with - kinda like that other Nazi leadership circle in WWII who were given no surrender until the armies were defeated."

That is insane crazy-talk from the mind of a Russian who loves his vodka and easily loses contact with reality.

Jumper: "Fix the Southern Boarder, let Ukraine collaspe, and let everyday American’s get on with their lives. "

Sadly, it appears that our Democrats do care more about keeping the Southern Border open to all comers than about helping Ukrainians defeat Russian invaders.
That's why this might not end well for Ukraine.

As for Americans getting "on with their lives", Ukraine has no effect on that one way or the other.
But a Russian victory over Ukraine will have very long-term negative consequences for the USA and our friends worldwide.

Jumper: "Stop the lies that Russia is somehow going to steamroll all of NATO..."

And yet... just two sentences later, Jumper tells us that's just what Vlad the Invader will do.

Jumper: " - you wanted to put missiles on the Ukrainian Russian Boarder and got bitch slapped for pulling this BS."

And here we see yet more insane crazy-talk from a mind besotted with Russian propaganda KoolAid.
100% complete delusions, but it gets worse.

Jumper: "NATO flying jets from NATO airfields in support Ukraine, or proposed production facilities near Ukraine in NATO lands is the only reason Russia might attack any place in a NATO country."

First -- so claims Vlad the Invader, who also claimed up until the day before his February 24, 2022 invasion of Ukraine that he was not going to invade Ukraine.
That tells us: Vlad the Invader's words are 100% believable and to be trusted always. </sarcasm>

Second, Jumper's words here are in fact a promise that Vlad the Invader will attack NATO, whenever he can gin up a pretext, regardless of how flimsy.

Read Jumper's words again, he is telling us that Vlad the Invader will attack NATO.

So nothing good is gained by giving Vlad a victory in Ukraine.

“people in Russia itself launch drones.”

TRUE.

RUSSIAN CIVILIANS ARE RISING IN PROTEST THE PUTIN INVASION. Also, there are Russian militia freedom fighter [anti-Kremlin fighters] paramilitary organizations working within Russia.

EXAMPLE: Liberty of Russia Legion was formed by former Russian soldiers who defected shortly after Russia launched its invasion into Ukraine.

“In a self-described “manifesto” posted on a Telegram channel linked to the group, the legion describes itself as opposed to the “tyrannical regime” of Russian President Vladimir Putin, blaming him for turning their country into a “pariah.”

“Funny. The terrorist country turns the tables and stubbornly fights all expressions of free-thinking,” the legion wrote. Some 20 legion members are already under investigation, according to TASS.

“He [Putin] has killed and continues to kill free Russians who are fighting against the dictatorial regime for the right to live freely, continues to kill thousands of civilians and hundreds of children in Ukraine,” the group wrote in a post in Russian on the social media platform in April 2022.”
