Marines Can't Count on Navy Ships to Carry Them to Global Emergencies, One of the Service's Top Generals Says

The Navy's amphibious ships are not ready to deploy Marines around the world on time, a problem that has no short-term fix and degrades America's ability to deter adversaries and reassure allies at a time when it is needed most, according to one of the Marine Corps' top generals.

"There's a saying that wars are a come-as-you-are game," Lt. Gen. Karsten Heckl, the commanding general of Marine Corps Combat Development Command and deputy commandant for combat development and integration -- the Marine who heads the service's modernization efforts, told Military.com on Thursday. "Well, this is where we are. And there is simply no immediate fix."

The readiness issue comes down to several factors, including overuse of amphibious ships during the last 20-plus years of war, according to Heckl, who said that maintenance took a back seat to the intense operational tempo that helped define the Global War on Terror. Now, according to the general, the Navy and its Marine passengers are reaping the consequences of those decisions, just as conflict in the Middle East boils over once again.

Send the Marines to the Southern Border. That’s where they’re needed most right now.

I remember thirty years ago they were showing attack hovercraft prototypes capable of carrying two squads of marines from ship to shore and once at high water continuing on for a mile or two.

I know it’s not accurate but I imagine the military as compromised of trannies and drag queens. I believe that fighting a war is a low priority.

Too many flexible parts that require lots of maintenance. They need mechanical systems where you install a new motor and grease the bearings and move out.

US Navy cannot even put out a fire on a dockside ship in San Diego - surrounded by water and a large number of fire fighting boats and gear . . . and people . . . and departments.

And, plenty of “chiefs.”

I don’t know what to make of this. On one hand, it’s distressing to hear how far the US military has fallen.

On the other hand, maybe this will put a brake on America’s desire to interfere all over the world.

So for now, I’ll stay neutral and hope that Trump sorts it out starting in January, 2025.

The same for our Air Force. Our C-17’s were wore out with the Iraq/ Afghanistan debacle. Without going into the details, wing sections, fuselages all have high time inspections due….years of work.

Maybe they will have to use that Intercontinental Railroad that Obama liked to talk about.

Our operational readiness has been needlessly worn down by our never ending involvement in open ended conflicts. The constant demands on operational resources and the stresses on personnel and logistical systems have taken a toll.

Its almost as if we are being systematically worn down. Just saying.

“The Navy’s amphibious ships are not ready to deploy Marines around the world on time, a problem that has no short-term fix”

Take that, Putin!!!! We don’t need no amphibious ships because WE ARE AMERICA and therefore WE ARE INVINCIBLE!

I’m almost starting to think that Trump’s real mark of GENIUS was preventing a Reagan-style upgrade to our military as he likely knew just how dangerous the Neocons were in lighting off World War 3, if they were handed a top-rate military, rather than one that’s been neglected for nearly 40 years.

(lighting off World War 3)

I am convinced that it's coming. Along with Population Reduction and the Great Reset.

What will come out of it is a Globalist New World Order and Satan's Antichrist.

All leading to calls for 7 years of 'Peace and Security'

“Conflict in the Middle East” has nothing to do with us.

The Marines need to get back to the Halls of Montezuma. Screw the Shores of Tripoli.

I don’t know why the U.S. military leadership would be bothered by this. The Navy is currently providing escort ships in the Red Sea for FOREIGN civilian ships that are being used to carry U.S. military cargo.

What do you think most of the MIC does? Only a small fraction is qualified to build ships planes and missiles.
