Amid a revolt against incumbents, Nebraska’s State Central Committee of the Republican Party has endorsed a GOP challenger to incumbent Sen. and former Gov. Pete Ricketts.

The committee is backing former Air Force Lt. Col. John Glen Weaver, according to the Nebraska Examiner.

In 2022, former President Donald Trump branded Ricketts a “RINO,” which means Republican in Name Only, according to KLKN-TV.

State and county parties should remain neutral until the primary is over.

Ricketts was appointed in 2023 after impeachment-voting Ben Sasse resigned become some college president (he knew he would never get reelected anyway).

Shouldn’t the parties make sure their candidates at least embrace the party platform?

“State and county parties should remain neutral until the primary is over.”

Conservatives have been “playing fair” for decades and getting our rear ends kicked all over the field.

No more.

I wonder if Ricketts will play the Murkowski/Cochrane card.

The candidate is representing the party. The party needs them
to support their beliefs, so that when votes come in the House
or Senate, the Conservative view will prevail.

If they were backing a RINO, then people should give them
hell over it. If they are backing a guy with solid views,
good.

Republicans are great at battling other Repbulicans, wish they were as good at taking on Democrats.

The failure to do this is why we get the Liz Cheney, Romney,
Christie, Cindy McCain types.

We have to weed these folks out, they cause so much damage.

Ricketts probably isn’t losing any sleep over this, nor should he.

Ricketts is not nearly 100% conservative, but he’s not Light Loafers Lindsey Graham either. Ricketts has well over $1 million to work with and the challenger who is being hyped here had $3,587.71 in the bank at last report.

It would be nice if a solidly Republican state like Nebraska was also solidly *conservative*, but it isn’t. With barely a month to go before the filing deadline, no viable Democrat is even in the race since Nebraska is obviously a lost cause for them. The best they can (and will) do is to support the most liberal Republican in the primary; since nobody is currently running at him from the left, that would be Ricketts.

Ricketts should easily cruise to re-election as things stand now. If Chuck Herbster gets into the GOP primary, it will be a lot more interesting.

Herbster got “Roy Moore-d” by the GOP establishment when he tried to run for Governor in ‘22, and a moderate establishment squish won the 3-way primary vs. Herbster and some left-wing state Senator who calls himself a Republican.

Yeah, they made sure Herbster lost because Sasse wanted to leave the senate and McConnell did not want a Trump guy appointing his replacement. So Herbster was defeated, a go-along was elected, Sasse resigned and we got Ricketts.

In a real sense, RINO’s are much worse than Democrats because their colleagues are more apt to work with them to pass Democrat legislation which otherwise wouldn’t have any chance.

AFAIK Herbster is not officially in the Senate race yet, though I have seen some sites which believe he is (or will be).

It remains to be seen whether Trump would endorse him again, and whether the allegations which conveniently popped up 2 years ago have been proven false yet.

Since Herbster is a Republican, “guilty until proven innocent” applies.

How true. They only fight amongst themselves.

The GOP is essentially a fake party. It is a party devoid of any principles or convictions.

And you Think McConnell will just sit idly by and watch one of his many RINO
Solders go down in a Primary?
You are foolish if you do.

RINOs are great at battling MAGA conservatives. RINOs would rather see a Democrat win than a MAGA candidate, which is why they sat back and allowed the Steal in 2020, and again in 2022 with Kari Lake and other MAGA candidates.

When McConnell’s donor’s interests are threatened, he’s actually the most energetic guy up in Washington. Unfortunately, the other 99% of the public who aren’t giving him large amounts of cash can go to hell.

National parties should stay out of it. Nominations has always been, and always will be, a state and local party program

This is what local and state party organizations exist to do.
