Does US wield power to end 'hot war'? Netanyahu has 'strong personal interest' to wage endless war
France 24 ^

Israeli forces pounded areas in northern and southern Gaza on Wednesday after the Palestinian militant group Hamas said it had received and was studying a new proposal for a ceasefire and release of hostages in Gaza. The proposal, presented by mediators after talks with Israel, appeared to be the most serious peace initiative for months in the Israel-Hamas war. The ceasefire proposal followed talks in Paris involving intelligence chiefs from Israel, the United States and Egypt, with the prime minister of Qatar. In a mark of the seriousness of the negotiations, Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh said he was going to Cairo to discuss it, his first public trip there for more than a month. But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated his vow not to pull troops out of Gaza until "total victory", a reminder of the huge gap in the public stances of the warring sides over what it would take to halt combat even temporarily. Israel says it will not stop fighting until the militant group which has ruled Gaza since 2007 is eradicated. For in-depth analysis and a deeper perspective on the Israel-Hamas war, the Paris ceasefire talks and the widening US-Israel divide, FRANCE 24's Mark Owen is joined by William Lawrence, Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at American University’s School of International Service. He has served as a senior diplomat, analyst, and international programs director.

Ah, the defenders of Hamas are rising from the septic tank. What other choice does Israel have? As for America, we’re done. We have no leadership, no morals, and since we’re led by the left, no brains.

Does US wield power to end ‘hot war’? Not with Crime Boss Joey in our White House.

Netanyahu has ‘strong personal interest’ to wage endless war.
Wow - you’d think the very survival of his country was a stake or something!

If Israel lays down their arms, thats when there would be endless wars. If Hamas and the Palestinians laid their arms down, there would be peace.

West Bank Palestinians are largely disarmed. But there is no peace because Israeli settlers continue to push Palestinians off their territory.

It’s a little hard to grasp why everyone thinks that Netanyahu as a personal interest in continued war. I don’t see that, nor do I see an explanation of why. The innuendo has been that his mistakes may have led to Oct 7th. That may be true, but unrelated. Netanyahu, like him or not, was really just ‘in charge’ when Oct. 7th happened. The driving force for Oct 7th has been years of ‘donations and support’ to a populace of people that wants Genocide of Jews. That is a single truth, that is undeniable based upon events, and can be confirmed by simply watching videos of how children are raised in the middle east by bigot parents.

The second truth is that Netanyahu cannot win this war. There will never be a time that the Bigots that started it will disappear, or their ideas will disappear. While I believed, for just a few moments, that Trump could accomplish peace in the middle east (and may have if it had not been for the Democrats, Chinese, and deep state), those possibilities evaporated with the events that occurred in 2020 and current administration.

Obama and Biden, with the help of much foreign money, have moved the world close to WWIII and it’s horrors than ANY prior US administrations. Fossil Fuels are clearly less of a risk to the environment than Democrats. Stolen elections have grave consequences. The US SCOTUS, in a domino fashion, by avoiding it’s duty to review an original jurisdiction case, is connected to the Oct. 7th event and its’ consequences.

Hamas attacked Israel. Israel has the right to remove that threat. Nuff said...

Not an “endless war”.. a war with a well defined expectation of victory… something the west has forgotten what that looks like.

This is an existential confrontation.

Good versus Evil. Very simple.

All of the Palestinians supported the massacre on 10/7.

They are getting what they asked for. Hard and deep.

Anyone advocating for the Palestinians is siding with Evil.

I’m about as pro-Israel as one could get. However, you make a fair point there. It can be argued back and forth if the settlements are moral or not. Either way, they are a problem and part of the equation.

Now here’s where you’re wrong. If all those Israeli settlements were abandoned tomorrow, there would still be no peace. The majority of Muslims in the region don’t just want the settlements gone. They want Israel gone.

So yes, the settlements are a problem. But they are a minor problem.

“Endless war”

As in “Since 622 AD”?

Netanyahu was in serious political and legal trouble prior to the October 7 attack. So long as the war continues, he won’t be out of office or subject to legal process.

Netanyahu has weathered many political storms, but the Oct. 7 attack is the strongest one yet

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/october-7-might-biggest-test-netanyahu-faced-yet-rcna122301

Netanyahu was already facing spiraling setbacks before what many consider the worst day in Israel’s history.

He is on trial in connection with an array of charges, including bribery, fraud and breach of trust, which he denies. After the latest in a series of elections and collapsed coalitions, his most recent Cabinet, which features a cast of ultranationalist and ultrareligious firebrands, is the most hard-right government in Israel’s history. He has also faced some of the biggest protests in Israeli history over judicial reforms that critics say would concentrate too much power in the government’s hands.

While atrocities such as the Hamas attacks sometimes produce a rally-round-the-flag effect for those in power, there has been no such boon for Netanyahu.

A poll conducted days after the attack found almost all respondents, 94%, believe the government must share some of the blame for Hamas’ unprecedented land, sea and air assault on Israel, which killed around 1,400 people. A huge majority, 86%, said the attack was a failure of the country’s leadership, and 56% said Netanyahu must resign after the war.
