DUBAI/ADEN/LONDON, Feb 22 (Reuters) – Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis claimed responsibility for an attack on a UK-owned cargo ship and a drone assault on an American destroyer on Thursday, and they targeted Israel’s port and resort city of Eilat with ballistic missiles and drones.

The statement by a Houthi representative on social media site X came shortly after the group’s leader said it was ramping up attacks on ships in the Red Sea and other waters – including with new “submarine weapons” -to mirror Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip.

“The Houthis on Thursday sent shippers and insurers formal notice of what they termed a ban on vessels linked to Israel, the U.S. and Britain from sailing in surrounding seas, seeking to reinforce their military campaign.

The Houthis’ communication, the first to the shipping industry outlining a ban, came in the form of two notices from the Houthis’ newly dubbed Humanitarian Operations Coordination Center sent to shipping insurers and firms. The aim is to force sailing companies to collaborate with the Houthis to guarantee the safety of their ships”

Ballsy, but incredibly they are operating from a position of strength. Let’s go try to push the Chicoms around with naval power.

If we had a real president Iran’s navy would have been sunk (just like Reagan did) and Houthi strongholds would have been reduced to powder after the first attack on our ships.

Why would they stop?

They can disrupt a massive amount of shipping with little effort and even limited success.

To get these people to stop would take a massive aerial bombing or missile campaign the cowards in Washington are not prepared to commence.

This is a war and the Houthis will have to face complete annihilation to decide to stop. They will have to be wiped off the face of the Earth to ever give up.

What will the U.S. response be to the shippers and insurers when they start paying the Houthis their protection money?

what ever came of the bombing on Yemen that was done 3 weeks ago?

There hasn’t been a peep in the MSM since, and it seems like the Houthis haven’t been deterred at all.

Don’t worry. It’s a matter of time and they will be crushed as Admiral Biden commands the fleet.

That’s why people say he’s the Horatio Nelson of our time.

We just keep letting them attack us and don’t kill them all. Stolen elections have consequences.

They have been bombed for the last decade. Our side doesn’t understand their resolve.

Here we have a ‘rebel group’ effectively closing a major choke point in world shipping with some weapons a very wealthy hobbyist could deploy. The fact that they would even dare to target a U.S. Navy warship shows how far we have fallen in the eyes of much of the world.

It is 1200 miles from Houthi controlled Yemen to Eilat.

So a terrorist group now has 1000+ mile force projection in the Red Sea ?

Where Operation Prosperity Guardian ?

US and allies can’t even control the Houthis.

I suggest they declare victory and go home. Rather than declare war on a Russian proxy.

Are you talking about the US bombings of Syria and Iraq? You really need a program to keep track of all wars Biden has stumbled us into. We’ve been bombing the Houthis constantly to no avail.
