Sony is cutting 900 jobs from its PlayStation division, the gaming company announced Tuesday, becoming the latest tech giant to lay off part of its workforce.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) President and CEO Jim Ryan announced the layoffs in a Tuesday email to PlayStation workers, saying they represent an 8 percent reduction across the company’s locations worldwide.

“After careful consideration and many leadership discussions over several months, it has become clear changes need to be made to continue to grow the business and develop the company,” Ryan wrote in the email. “We had to step back, look at our business holistically, and move forward focusing on the long-term sustainability of the company and delivering the best experiences possible for our community.”

“The goal is to streamline our resources to ensure our continued success and ability to deliver experiences gamers and creators have come to expect from us.”

Also, a mouthful of words to say that they will be using AI to create mundane programming and only use actual programmers to edit the AI lines of code for a finished product.

Now that the Millies and Zeros have declared a jihad against the Jews, they don’t have time to play PlayStation anymore. Now they can be real murdering terrorists with spears and swords. Sony has lost a hell of a lot of their customers.

Ignore all these company lay-offs. I assure you the economy is doing great! Bidenonimcs is saving our nation and the consumer is better off financially than they have ever been in our nation’s history. Especially those in the middle-class. /s

Where is the SONY Playstation Division ?

I googled my answer:

“Sony Cuts 900 Jobs in Gaming, Shuts Down a London Division”

”There will also be reductions in Liverpool-based Firesprite and Amsterdam-based Guerrilla Games, which are first-party developers for PlayStation Studios

In addition, the US-based studios and groups that will be affected by the decision include Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog, and Sony’s technology, creative, and support teams.”

I’m honestly not surprised, and it’s not just the wokeness (although that is some of the issue). From a gamer’s perspective, it really feels like Sony screwed the pooch all way around with the PS5 this generation. They released it right at the cusp of COVID with supply issues abounding, so folks that really wanted to buy the console couldn’t because the resellers bought them up. With the majority of consoles in reseller hands rather than gamers’ hands, Sony found that resellers don’t buy games, and gamers who don’t have consoles don’t buy games either, so games were seldom made. The PS5 has only a handful of exclusive titles, and of those, even fewer worth writing home about (and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S|X isn’t faring much better).

Add in the fact that the economy sucks right now, and folks are choosing food on the table over entertainment boxes in the living room, and it’s a perfect storm for all gaming companies right now (except Nintendo, which has been trucking along like gangbusters). As a gamer, it really feels like we’re on the cusp of yet another gaming industry crash, although for different reasons than the 83-84 crash. Sounds like it’s already starting to eat Sony’s lunch.
