JUSTIN AMASH launches GOP U.S. Senate bid in Michigan
The Hill ^ | 02/29/24 12:00 PM ET | BY CAROLINE VAKIL

Former Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) announced Thursday that he’s launching a long-shot bid for retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s (D-Mich.) seat.

Amash left the Republican Party in 2019 following his criticism of former President Trump and switched to independent, however he is running in the GOP primary for the Senate seat.

“Regardless of who wins the White House and Congress, the United States will remain deeply polarized,” Amash wrote in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, as he announced his candidacy.

“What we need is not a rubber stamp for either party, but an independent-minded senator prepared to challenge anyone and everyone on the people’s behalf — someone focused not on extending federal power so Republicans or Democrats in Washington can achieve their political ends, but on ensuring that Americans have the personal and economic freedom to pursue their own ends,” he added.

Amash’s bid throws an unexpected curveball into the GOP primary, though the independent is unlikely to win.

The Senate Republicans’ campaign arm has rallied around former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), but former Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.) — known for his vote to impeach Trump following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol — is running as well.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), actor Hill Harper and businessman Nasser Beydoun are running on the Democratic side.

Sounds like the ass clown vote will be divided two ways in the GOP primary, though. That should give Rogers and advantage.

This is obviously being done ONLY to split the support and prevent a more conservative candidate, Mike Rogers, from being the nominee. The GOPe is good at working to make sure a vacant Senate seat is taken by a Democrat.

All of the sudden, RHINOs feel emboldened. We already have to deal with the Collins, and Romney’s of the world. They are coming out of the wood work. God, help us.

https://reason.com/2019/12/18/justin-amash-on-impeachment-republicans-are-betraying-the-principles-and-values-they-once-claimed-to-cherish/

“I rise today in support of these articles of impeachment,” he said on the House floor. “Not as a Democrat, not as a Republican, but as an American, who cares deeply about the Constitution, the rule of law, and the rights of the people.” The five-term congressman noted that the impeachment process should not be about “policy disagreements,” “ineffective governance,” or “criminality based on statutes that did not exist at the time our Constitution was written.” Instead, he said, it “is about maintaining the integrity of the office of the presidency and ensuring that executive power is directed toward proper ends in accordance with the law.”

Amash left the Republican party in July after declaring in May that he believed Trump committed impeachable offenses. “Today, I am declaring my independence and leaving the Republican Party,” he wrote in The Washington Post. “No matter your circumstance, I’m asking you to join me in rejecting the partisan loyalties and rhetoric that divide and dehumanize us….The two-party system has evolved into an existential threat to American principles and institutions.”

That does not mean that I support him politically, however.

So, let’s try to understand his “logic”. He loudly “quit” the Republican Party, and “rejects partisan loyalties”, and is against “extending federal power to the Republicans”... so why the heck is he running for U.S. Senator AS a Republican?

Why doesn’t Mr. “principled” simply run for the Senate as an INDEPENDENT or LIBERTARIAN?

I’d also suggest Mr. “I’m for the Constitution, blah blah blah” seek the CONSTITUTION Party nomination, but we all know the Constitution Party wouldn’t touch the Palestinian loon Justin Hamas with a 10ft pole, which pretty much demonstrates how “pro-Constitution” he actually is when you look at his ACTIONS instead of his rhetoric. If he’s “pro-Constitution” with HIS voting record, so is Nancy Pelosi.

But since he’s running WITHIN the two party system AFTER loudly screaming how much he’s against it, here’s a tip for Justin: We don’t need any Hamas sympathizers in the GOP. There’s a place for them that will welcome them with open arms. It’s called the Democrat Party.
