Airline passengers getting bumped as asylum-seekers vie for standby seats

It’s not even 4 a.m. and the line to get through security at McAllen International Airport is backing up on Tuesday morning.

Among the travelers, asylum-seeking migrants hoping to get on flights by purchasing standby tickets.

Ahead of the Transportation Security Administration’s checkpoint, Border Patrol agents screen the migrants by taking their photos and checking documents to ensure that none is trying to board flights illegally.

Joel Cavazos, 43, is a music distributor executive who lives in Los Angeles and the Rio Grande Valley.

On Friday, he was trying to fly to L.A. with his partner and their 6-month-old daughter, Raza, when he was bumped from an American Airlines flight at McAllen International Airport.

He ended up missing an important business meeting and said he wasn’t aware, nor told by the airlines, that he should have been at the airport hours before the flight.

He flies frequently — at least twice a month — and said he wasn’t able to check in via the airline’s mobile app. He says he got to the airport an hour ahead of the flight’s departure, but by the time he got through the TSA checkpoint — with 30 minutes until the flight — he was told by a gate agent that he’d been bumped.

“No. They weren’t polite at all. The initial response was, ‘You missed your flight. We gave your ticket to someone else.’ If you’re not here in time, if you don’t check in within 45 minutes, you lose your flight,'” he told Border Report. “(The American Airlines employee) said, ‘We gave your seat.’ She said we don’t have anymore. We gave it to someone else that was on standby.”

Border Patrol agents screen the migrants by taking their photos and checking documents to ensure that none is trying to board flights illegally.

What documents? We keep reading that they have no documents. We read not long ago that their main paper is a "parole" document from the government after being released and that is permissible ID.

What the hell is Border Patrol worried about illegals boarding flights illegally? They snuck into the country and broke the law, so they are illegal. They are flying without valid ID which is illegal. Every single one of them is boarding the flight illegally!

What criteria is BP using to ascertain the illegals are "boarding flights illegally"?

“standby tickets”

I thought nowadays you could only fly standby on the same day as you had a ticket for and prior to your ticketed flight.

The “valid ID” requirement is only so people can’t resell cheap advance tickets for top dollar last minute prices.

When I was young airline employees checked my ID and my ticket to see that they matched.

You’re talking 40 years ago! That all changed after 9/11.

America is sick of this

through some church work my wife does, she knows many people who are recovered drug addicts/alcoholic. I hear many stories of people who were homeless, had broken homes, etc...

Had a group dinner with this organization - one thing which blew up the room and set everybody off was this. Local resources that went to homeless families, addiction half-way houses, etc... have been re-allocated to migrants.

Its turned people who normally support Democrats, and outraged the non-political

Captain should refuse illegal immigrants. They have that duty. The DOJ runs an entire airline of jets, complete with flight attendants and catering. Hundreds of them. Use those planes.

“Captain should refuse illegal immigrants.”

If he does, he’ll be jobless. Captains couldn’t refuse clot shots. The ones that did ww were punished.

No he or she won't. They pulled air marshalls out of airline flights just to hand out free cell phones, vwelfare, and housing, for the very same illegals they are supposed to be protecting us from on the planes they are no longer guarding.

9/11 attackers were here on expired student visas. History repeats itself.

Yes, of course. It started with the Covid vax scam. The airlines were told to “ make” requirements with all employees to get the clot shot…in return all majors received $$$ billions….they even went as far as to report to senile Joes administration ( I will not call it government) all who refused the clot shot and those who finally were given waivers….it took me 3 months to get a waiver….
I stood my ground and repeatedly told HR fire me, I will NEVER take the clot shot.

Easy money for the Biden bootlickers.

And they don’t have to have a passport that matches your driver license exactly (if your PP says Michael J Smith, your DL can’t have Mike Smith) - matter of fact, I don’t think they need any ID other than the papers they got crossing the border and they can give any name they want.

Believe you me, if there is ANY question about YOU, they can run a background check to the day you were born in a matter of minutes but we know NOTHING about these crimmigrants flooding our once great country.

All of my friends and former coworkers were forced to take them in order to keep their jobs.

The airline required checkin at least a 45 minute prior to departure and he didn’t do it. It’s that simple. If the flight wasn’t full he might have been ok.

He didn’t know he needed to be hours early, yet He cleared TSA and got to the gate 30 minutes early. Which is plenty of time, if you’re checked in.

How did he clear TSA without a ticket or being checked in? He should have checked in at the airline counter to get a ticket. How did he clear TSA without it? Significant other (husband?) and a kid. But no bags to check? Probably flying a discount airline.

Trying to blame a crowd of immigrants illegal or otherwise for his self inflicted debacle is disingenuousness at its best. He misses this flight if there is just one person, immigrant or not, on standby.

If they are not from Mexico they cannot be asylum seekers. They are simply criminals and parasites — perfect candidates for the Democratic party.
