MLG holds photo op at ABQ school to sign two anti-gun bills (NM Gov)
The Piñon Post ^ | March 4, 2024 | Piñon Post staff

On Monday, far-left anti-gun Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham had a photo op at Albuquerque’s West Mesa High School, where she signed two anti-gun bills and two crime-related bills.

“These four bills are an incredible effort to do more,” she said at the presser, per the Santa Fe New Mexican.

At the press conference, she was flanked by discredited anti-gun group “co-president” Miranda Viscoli of “New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence” and the sponsor of the extreme H.B. 129 anti-gun bill State Rep. Andrea Romero (D-Santa Fe)

“All four bills become effective immediately, the governor said as she prepared to sign them,” the outlet reported, although the governor’s remark is inaccurate because these bills did not pass with an “emergency clause.” They will go into effect 90 days following the Legislature’s adjournment, which is in mid-May.

Among the bills set to become law is House Bill 129, which forces through a mandatory seven-day waiting period for all gun purchases, with minor exceptions of law enforcement agencies and those who hold concealed carry permits. This is the most stringent anti-gun law passed this session, although it was significantly weakened from its original form.

She will also sign Senate Bill 5 to make carrying a firearm within 100 feet of a polling station during active voting a misdemeanor. This rule comes with exceptions for law enforcement personnel on duty, legitimate business activities, individuals in their vehicles, and those possessing a concealed firearm, rendering the bill essentially meaningless.

The other two bills signed increased maximum jail time for attempted murder from three to nine years, and introduces a new measure for repeat felony offenders, establishing an automatic no-bail hold for those who breach their release conditions by committing another felony. Currently violent offenders can be released without bail pending trial. The latter helps but the perp can still get a free release from jail for the first felony.

Gun bills are a total waste of time, unless you want the
public to be helpless.

Considering that making the populace completely defenseless and helpless is their goal, then anti-gun bills work quite well. Wasn’t it MLK Jr who said “A right relayed is a right denied?”

But the dipsh** governor isn’t working in a vacuum. The people who voted for her must want to be defenseless and want everyone else defenseless too.

Yeah, I hear ya.

It’s strange to me how folks can view one issue like gun
control, and see it do differently.

It’s like backing Biden. Who in their right mind would
vote for a guy like that, and fear a guy like Trump who
has already been president and did a good job.

Was there an Alec Baldwin exclusion paragraph? Sorry that NM has fallen so far. Thanks for the post.

MLG will be governor for another two years and will sign more radical gun bills if the Democrat-controlled legislature sends them her way. These could include a ban on semi-automatic guns and a 10-round maximum magazine. There were several non-gun bills that barely were defeated including business-paid six-week time off for maternity leave, care of sick relatives and other personal issues. Another initiative that was left on the table at the end of the 30-day session was a revamp of the state’s Oil and Gas Act which likely would result in less production.

However, a so-called “clean fuel standards” bill did pass that is similar to California’s which sets up steps to reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels. Opponents said the bill will increase the cost of gasoline by 50 cents which will impact poor and low income earners the hardest.

Though the governor is not up for election in November, all members of the state house and senate are. It’s important that Pubs and conservative independents who stayed home in 2022 get off their duff and elect a representative legislature much more in tune with concerns by residents of the state.

My home state has been Californicated! Now I am considered a criminal if I ever go there.

Saw my first handgun in school at Farmington NM back in 1956. Brought for Show and Tell. It was a military pistol from around 1830.
Today the school would go into lockdown, parents would go into a panic and the police would cordon off the area.

But then you have to remember it was just a few years back when some loon shot up the Aztec school east of there.

As it was Constitution Day, they should have discussed and explored the meaning of 1st and 2nd amendments.

When someone shoots another, they don’t think about how much time they will spend in prison. Most times they think they’ll get away with it.
