2024 Election The 2020 election took days to call. Could it happen again this year? While many states have made it easier to count mail ballots faster in recent years, several critical swing states may still keep America waiting well beyond Election Day. After the 2020 presidential election took days to call, many states reworked how they process mail ballots with the goal of delivering results faster — and cutting off oxygen for conspiracy theories that flourished as the country waited for results.

Election officials are optimistic that the 2024 vote count will be smoother without the many challenges the pandemic election of 2020 posed to officials. But in the event of a close race, a handful of key battleground states could keep Americans waiting well beyond Election Day yet again to learn who will be president for the following four years.

Clerks in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — two of the most closely divided states in the 2020 election — still will not be able to process any mail ballots prior to Election Day, despite efforts of state lawmakers to change the rules. That means there could again be a massive pileup of absentee ballots to sort through in those states Nov. 5, along with the in-person vote.

There’s nothing wrong with taking time to report results. In fact, the states that take longer may actually have fewer opportunities for voter fraud.

Well there is one big problem, to me, mail in ballots should be post marked by the USPS as a deadline 7 days before election day. If not they are invalid. I know, one could have FedEx or UPS, have them delivered by election day, let the democrats pay the $29.99 fee posited, for next day delivery.

Easy rule.

If delay helps the national security state, there will be delay.

If it does not, everything will happen lickety-split.

Fair enough. I would say any ballot that isn’t received by the time the voting precincts close in a state should be disqualified.

It's a trap we shouldn't allow us to fall into.

I'm talking about counting mail-in ballots before election day. I know it might speed things up, but only by opeing up a huge window for fraud! There have already been multiple reports of "double voting" where people showed up in person to vote on election day and were denied because they had already voted by mail.

Who mailed those ballots? Which candidate received that mail-in vote? If the ballot was removed from the envelope and counted before election day, there's no way to know. That vote counts, no matter who cast it. It's the voter who shows up in person with ID, who followed all the rules, whose vote is rejected.

That's why I believe all absentee ballots must remain in their envelopes, uncounted, until the polls close. In-person votes should be counted FIRST, not last. Only afterward do we open mail-in envelopes, checking against the register of in-person votes. Any duplicates are discarded.

Politics is all about votes, and looks like some unscrupulous politicians will cast your vote for you if they can. Right now, mail-in seems to be the method.

Didn’t take days for me. The minute they stopped the counting in the battleground states I knew it was over for all but the shouting. The rest was just superfluous drama. I felt sick of what had happened and I needed to recover. I don’t think the US has yet to recover.

Exactly
In 2020, when the polls closed, here in PA, PDJT was up by 700,000 votes.
An insurmountable task, for “The Basement Dweller”, who couldn’t get 20 people at a rally, including media, while PDJT could pull in 60- 100,000 in Any Small Town, USA.
The PA Supremes decided that election laws didn’t matter and the Sec of State, in violation of the law, declared that voter ID was blocked, signature matching wasn’t needed, that mail in ballots could be accepted after the deadline and mail in ballots, without a postmark would be counted.
In one tranche, at 1:30am, xiden got 600,000+, while PDJT got 3,000.
Most secure election ever, my Shiney White a$$.

The counting will continue until the result they want is achieved.
