Kinda hard to calibrate a “character-meter” when it’s not immediately obvious that there are very few to almost no patriots left in the Republican Party.

I suspect he gets swayed by flattery and fawning by job seekers. He needs to focus on people with proven results, ideological consistency, and unassailable convictions.

Or could it be lawfare, the threat of lawfare, and the fact that are maybe 5 Constitutional Conservatives who live in the Swamp and are available for Executive Office work oops 2 of them are on SCOTUS make that 3 Constutitional Conservatives who live in the Swamp.
Furthermore, when you hire someone to the Executive Branch, he or her spends at least half their time punching down on the people that are in line to succeed them. That has been going on since Geo. Washington.
As long as they say something nice about him then they’re alright and have earned a place in his administration.
