Road Trip: Travis Air Force Base, California

CAtravis7

Travis Air Force Base is a United States Air Force air base under the operational control of the Air Mobility Command (AMC), located three miles east of the central business district of Fairfield, in Solano County, California, United States.

Situated at the southwestern edge of the Sacramento Valley and known as the "Gateway to the Pacific," Travis Air Force Base handles more cargo and passenger traffic through its airport than any other military air terminal in the United States. The base has a long and proud history of supporting humanitarian airlift operations at home and around the world. Today, Travis AFB includes approximately 7,260 active USAF military personnel, 4,250 Air Force Reserve personnel and 3,770 civilians.

The base's host unit, the 60th Air Mobility Wing, is the largest wing in the Air Force's Air Mobility Command, with a versatile fleet of 26 C-5 Galaxies, 27 KC-10 Extenders, and 13 C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.

In addition, the base's former Strategic Air Command Alert Facility is now a U.S. Navy complex that typically supports two transient Navy E-6B Mercury TACAMO aircraft assigned to Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron THREE (VQ-3) Detachment and normally home-based at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.

The largest squadron within the 60th Medical Group, the 60th Medical Operations Squadron maintains worldwide contingency medical readiness for three Wings with 405 authorized personnel supporting a $310.5 million total annual medical expense. 60 MDOS provides quality health care to more than 500,000 Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs personnel.

CAtravis2

The 9th Air Refueling Squadron mobilizes and deploys 12 KC-10 aircraft with over 140 combat-ready personnel and equipment to worldwide forward operating locations. Ensures global reach for America by generating 24-hour-a-day strategic airlift and aerial-refueling sorties supporting U.S. and allied forces during contingency operations.

Howdy, lauren.
Things going well down your way? Did you have to deal with storms last week like we did up here? The system started off in your neck o’ da woods.

Sounds like it was here, though we got a tornado in the bargain. Not too close to the farm, thank goodness, but close enough for a heck of a light show! LOL
Here’s hoping this week is a lot quieter for everyone.

Hiya radu, sorry I missed you last night.

We've been in very warm weather pattern so I had to break out the shorts.

Of course a cooling is coming but it feels good.

Not much happening over the weekend, did visit Robin and the pups and it looks like the first lawn mow may happen soon.

How wuz your weekend?

Wow! Break-out-the-shorts weather? Didn’t expect to hear that. LOL Great that it’s been that comfy though.
We had one day that was that warm last week but it sure isn’t that way now. Mid-40s today with a nasty, biting wind. Supposed to drop to the low 20s tonight. BRRRR

It was a pretty boring weekend since the group tour cancelled for Saturday at the museum. They’ll reschedule but that was no consolation. LOL I was looking forward to heading up there. I’m beyond antsy after a long, boring winter.
