Tuberville says GOP leadership should have vetted claims in Katie Britt’s speech

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) said GOP leadership should have more carefully reviewed the claims in Sen. Katie Britt’s (R-Ala.) response to President Biden’s State of the Union address as she faces criticism for sharing a story of sexual violence from two decades ago as an attack on Biden.

Asked by CNN’s Manu Raju about Britt’s decision to share the story in her response, Tuberville said, “Yeah, well, that obviously didn’t go over too well.”

“I would think that our leadership would have vetted that a little bit more because I would imagine they helped her with that,” he said Sunday on CNN’s “Inside Politics With Manu Raju.” “You know, and that’s again, that’s a mistake made. But it was a good point of emphasis of what really goes on from the border. And I think that’s what she’s trying to get over more than anything.”

During her State of the Union response, Britt told the story of a woman she met who experienced human trafficking from 2004 to 2008. The first-term senator used the story as an attack on Biden’s border policies.

Britt defended the story against criticism, arguing the story represents Biden’s border policy.

...

Britt’s rebuttal was described by many as having an unnatural delivery, and the following Saturday, actress Scarlett Johansson appeared on “Saturday Night Live” to mock the senator in the cold open.

The left uses Reconstruction when it attacks Republicans. They use the march on Selma which was in 1965. They use the Tulsa race riots which were 100 years ago. They use Jim Crow which ended 75 years ago. They use the Spanish Inquisition against Catholics, which was 500 years ago. They use slavery which ended 160 years ago.

It’s a story of the horrors of human trafficking. Democrats do it all of the time. No one fact checks them, that’s the difference here. Pretty hard to talk to the children & women from Joe Biden’s invasion because they are whisked off before anything about them, their names etc., are even documented.

"It’s a story of the horrors of human trafficking."

Agree. It's an "old" story but these things STILL go on, and to an even greater extent because of Biden.

One might or might not like Katie Britt, but don't take part in the smears of Demoncrats.

She did not blow it. she carefully explained of a recent conversation with a victim of border sexual abuse that occurred approx. 15-20 years ago.

Her point was it was happening then and is much worse now. Media distorted it, of course.

Tommy T’s been a breath of fresh air, but he was taken too by accepting media’s premise.

I can’t speak to her MAGA creds, but I’ve assumed they’re pretty strong.

Neocons always believe they can out “Democrat” Democrats. I was unimpressed, but perhaps it had some impact on some of the female voters who are leaning the wrong way. By the way, did not vote for her and Trump was no help in stopping her election during the primaries.

Bad choice but if she’s GOPe then that explains a lot. What we really needed was a serious well spoken strong male who could be a credible contrast to Biden’s shouting and yammering. But no, idiot GOP had to try to “relate” to the female voter, and just reminded women why they would look for a competent effective male when the fat was in the fire. Too bad the GOP doesn’t have any of those besides Trump.

You sure got that right!

What a waste of a "safe seat."

By the way, her so-called mentor (Shelby) tapped her and was right up there with the best of the RINOs.

I think the GOP Establishment did vet this speech, that really old story was put there with intent, and that the GOP even leaked to the press that the story was from way back to make sure it didn’t get overlooked.

There aren’t any downsides for the GOP here, really. Let’s not forget, the GOP is entirely opposed to a wall. They want open borders.

Katie Britt was endorsed by Trump a few years ago. The media have reminded us of that more than once. Let’s add this up:

So the media can use it against Trump, use it against border security, and use it against “stupit” (on purpose) Trump supporters. All are things the GOP itself wants. Katie got used by the Establishment because she wanted to get used. On this, the whole thing is a big fat GOP mission accomplished. We got had.
