Historic crackdown on gas cars will ensure two-thirds of vehicles will be electric, hybrid by 2032 after Biden admin finalizes new rule

The Biden administration finalized its crackdown on gas cars Wednesday, with the Environmental Protection Agency announcing drastic climate regulations meant to ensure more than two-thirds of passenger cars and light trucks sold by 2032 are electric or hybrid vehicles.

The EPA rule imposes strict limits on tailpipe pollution, limits the agency says can be met if 56% of new vehicles sold in the US are electric by eight years from now, along with 13% that are plug-in hybrids or other partially electric cars. That would be a huge increase over current EV sales, which rose to 7.6% of new vehicle sales last year, up from 5.8% in 2022.

Despite the relatively low demand — which has led to auto manufacturers scaling back planned investment in electric vehicle manufacturing — the EPA insisted that carmakers have not had any “change in … intentions regarding PEVs generally or specifically.”

If this crap goes through US roads in 2035 will look like Cuba with decades old ICE vehicles patched up and still running because people cannot afford a new EV, find EVs do
not meet their needs or find that used EVs are a waste of money because of the prohibitive cost of replacement batteries and disposal fees.

The goal isn’t to have everyone driving EV’s, the goal is to have people unable to drive and either walking, biking, scootering or taking the bus.

I can tell you that is the plan. Their stated goal is to elimate gas stations by 2025.

Yes. I am in the process of replacing many parts that are original. Should be good for another 10-15 years once I’m done.

In my neck of the woods, City officials told us in 2018 that all gas stations would be gone by 2025.They might be a bit behind.
